Steve Heath's book www.shpub.co.uk/ has a fair bit to say about water leaks. It makes fascinating reading. You wouldn't believe some of the ways water can get in. Or maybe you would.
It may be just that you are not sealing the hood properly.
Correct procedure is:
Slot roof panel in
Raise rear section
Before clicking stays over centre, fasten the velcro flaps inside
Now click over centre
Make sure the front of the hood at the base of the hoop is tucked in, it sometimes splits a little here
Smooth down the velcro on the outside
Doing it this way ensure the fabric is under tension - like a tent, if it's not it will leak.
If it still leaks down the pillar after this your hood needs reproofing - Thompsons is the stuff to use (fabric not brick!).
Sure fire way of finding out is to get someone to hose the car while you are sat inside, and wait for the drips.

Have a look at this thread from a few weeks ago - your leak sounds very similar to mine. It could be that the roof simply needs waterproofed; if the previous owner didn't go out in rain then he simply mightn't have known that the roof leaked - but if it's not that then it could well be this:

Crimps in the bottom of the door seal???
I have water comming in from the very front of the door at the bottom...it seems to fill up the grove in the rubber then overflow into the car!!!
What are these elusive crimps you talk of?
seriously i have loked at the rubber on the door shuts and there are no crimps along the botton

well,
i have the edition one of the tvr bible, the owner before was nice enough to include with the sale and had a read through that
The book says "Fabsil" is this the correct stuff to use
will have a look at the roof but does not seem like it as not on the seat only on the piller/floor behind the drivers side
thanks for the link will have a read

I've got two crimps in each of the door seals because water collects in the groove and can only exit *into* the cabin. If you get your thumb and push the door seal downwards until it's flat - and the top is flush - then that's kinda what I have. They're presumably held down with glue (isn't everything?).
Waterproofing is also the first thing to do (and repeat once or twice a year to keep is effective). Heard that Thompsons is good, quite cheap too. Personally have always used Fabsil and it has been excellent at repelling water, beads off nicely. Can get it from any decent camping shop or halfords in the caravan section, just make sure you buy thecan and paint it on, don't be tempted with the spray.
Other things to check would be that the windows are butting up to the roof and there is no gap.
Thirdly if it lives outside would recommend getting a hood cover from Leven technology. Keeps it protected from bird crap too!

i shall have a look and see what i can do...is it push the seal down towards the kick plates...or push in towards the interior?
both - the net effect is to create a little channel that allows water to exit the door-seal-groove towards the kick plate. I've got two per side, about six inches in. I can take some piccies tonight if that helps.
well the side it is leaking just taken a picture and looks like the rubber is set wrong
can some one have a look and see what i mean
and tell me what i need to replace buy more of etc
