which wheels do we like ?
Discussion
I am looking for new wheels also- trouble is, I know what type I want I just can't find anyone that makes them.
I want a deep dish shadow chrome with a polished lip and no visible studs oh and between 5-8 spokes.
Only ones I have seen are all well over £1k, too much if you ask me.
I have also been toying with Alessio turbo 2005 (£620 with tyres) but now appear discontinued or the awesome lenso concept 5 wheels (£615 with tyres.
My perfect wheels would be FOOSE speedster wheels from the legendary designer chip foose but I think many people would think too modern for the S and also in excess of 1.5k
so never really gonna happen.
anyone agree or more likely disagree??

as the rolling radius for 17s on low profiles is the same as the existing 15s , the ofset will be the same and i can tune the ride heights, camber , castor, king pin inclination etc the only issue i can see is increased sidewall stiffness on the tyres - tyre technology having moved on a bit in the last 15 yrs makes me hope that the worst i'll end up with is a slightly harsher ride which can be sorted by dropping a few lbs on the spring rate -
if i'm wrong of course feel free to gloat at my stupidity

true enough I guess. i am no guru on suspension but by softening up the springs I would imagine more roll and the stiffer sidewalls doing little by way of compensating. I may, of course, be talking twaddle.

The ride is pretty harsh in a TVR anyway, if you want a comfy ride buy something else lol, its part of the appeal surely
not the point I was making. The point I was making is that a worse ride can also mean a slower ride. Drive a Tuscan/Cerb/Tam on 16" spiders compared to the aesthetically pleasing 18s and its a far better handling car IMHO. The ride on my S was harsh but it was also vert sweet handling. I wouldn't want to jeopardise that handling. If by fitting low pro tyres it negates that effect, then its not an issue. I would just want to be certain of that before parting with hard earned. The experts will no doubt be able to confirm.

I have a real soft spot for minilites but form image wheels thes are going to cost around £300 per rim for the size you want, i have just bought some wheels for my caravan from www.rondell.com type 58 and these are very nice and not badly priced

Sounds a good price and the wolfrace do look good.
I have been looking around for something more like a 'turbine'
like you see on some BMWs but dont seem to find any with the right offset.
Of the others I have seen I have always thought my original OZ slotted looked better than any of the modern street designs on the S.
Also my tyres are too good still to replace!
Do think the price is keen though and they would look good in dark grey on the right colour S.
Of those who have gone to a 17" on low profiles, I have never heard them say the handling has altered, just the ride harder for what its worth.

Reb, I think you're right about the tyres. Lower profiles stiffen the ride, I'm using 40's rather than 50's on my MG and it's certainly noticablly harsh, but road holding is great. I understand 17's should fit OK with low profiles.
I think style is just personal choice, if it looks modern but you like it, then that's all that matters. Someone I know runs Vogue International in Leicester and would probably give advice (one partner has a 450SEAC, the other a Ferrari Hammam). They also have lots of photos of wheels/cars (and a web site).
Personally, I also like the 'turbine' or minilite look. Cheers
