Well, depending how it was towed, the gearbox may be wrecked. If it's a Rover box, you should never tow these cars with the rear wheels on the ground (other than short distances) unless the prop has been disconnected, as the oil pump in the gearbox won't be working, resulting in mechanical mayhem. I don't know about the T5 box though.

I would say your gear box is in need of a rebuild.
You should NEVER toe a car at speed or for any distance without disconnecting the propshaft.
The oil pump is driven from the input shaft of the gear box.
So as you were in neutral and being toe at X miles an hour (sorry KPH) the gear box will run dry
as the input shaft will not be turning and thats it nackered gear box.
I would be looking for redress by the towing company if I were you.
Sorry and hope you get it sorted soon.
Cheers Paul.

I think you may be misreading the post guys. Sounds to me like he is explaining what happened whilst DRIVING the car and is at first simply commenting on having to be towed ???

The OP's exclamation marks suggested to me that the overtaking etc. was whilst being towed - otherwise, it's hardly exceptional in a Tiv. Whether the problem happened whilst being towed or subsequently as a result of being towed, I still think it points to a failed gearbox.

Hmm, it's difficult to establish exactly what he means. Maybe some effort in using punctuation and grammer would help us to help you!

Why would he have pointed out the ice light coming on and a loss of gears/clutch whilst being towed ?? That was my reasoning. Perhaps it would be a good idea if he comes back to the forum to better explain..... Either way i agree with the diagnosis of g/box failure.
