Chaps,
I'm interested in doing a track day at Bedford but am a bit worried about the noise limits now that TVR Power's fitted a Super Sports exhaust:-

"At Bedford Autodrome we have two noise tests. First your car will be subjected to a static test, in which the noise level is measured 50cm away from your exhaust pipe with the engine at 75% of maximum rpm. The reading must not exceed 101 dB(A)."

"Secondly, and more significantly, your car must comply with our drive-by noise limits. The noise emission from your car must not exceed 87 dB(A) measured 20 metres from your car, which shall be accelerating maximally at over 60 mph."

Does any one know if my Tamora'll pass?
Has any one taken their own car to Beford with a Sports exhaust fitted?

Cheers..... Andrew

So let me get this right, for the static test your sports exhaust needs to be measuring less than 101db, 1.5 feet away with the engine at approx 5500rpm (with a super sports exhaust). Would have thought that a standard exhaust would even stuggle with that .

Intial thought would be no chance but would be interested to hear how loud it realistically would be.

If they measured it on tick over you may have a slim chance .

Before I changed exhaust I went on a track day with std exhaust, and it was about 98db on static test.

Now about 105, and I think your zorst will be louder than that.

Thanks chaps, that's what I was afraid of.

I've been to Bedford before with the standard exhaust which was okay and as I still have it I may have to put it back on. TVR Power originally fitted the sports exhaust but is it a simple job that anyone can do?

You could rent a cherry bomb to reduce the noise?

At the BNG they did a test to see who had the loudest car, there was a couple of Tams / T350's tested. Think they were about 112 - 120 Db's with supersport type or similar exhaust fitted.

Madbadger's was one of them, try contacting him.

I think the ACT clip on things will reduce the noise.

124db.

I think that was 1m away at 45deg, not 50cm.

At 4000rpm (Cadwell limit, but 75% would be ~6000rpm) it was 109db, again at 1m and 45deg.

I think it was about 100ish at tickover when it was found to be noisier than Simons Murcielago!

Mine is an ACT (I think) but I think they are the same as the SS one.

You can get bolt on silencers, but I have no idea how effective they are.

Always seemed a bit silly that you can drive through a village with any exhaust you like, but not round a track.

Thanks.

How about swapping back to the standard exhaust?
Is it easy to do?
Any special tools needed?

Cheers.... Andrew

Changing back to the original should not take you more than 1/2 an hour.

You will need 13mm and 17mm sockets and a small allen key for undoing the fixture from the number plate mount to the underside diffuser.

Once you have removed the allen key bolts undo all of the bolts holding the diffuser on(6)and take the diffuser off.

Undo the exhaust clamps one on each exhaust, pull out the clips holding the exhausts to the bodywork and all done.

Fitting is just a reverse of the above, you should be able to complete without jacking up, but this would depend on how big you are, no offence meant but there is not much space to crawl underneath

I concur...i did this for Castle Combe last year it really is a very easy job and only takes half an hour.

Done it but the "30 minute job" took three of us two hours! Agree it won't take two hours next time as most of it was a learning experience.

Found that the fixing that slots into the rubber bit is at a completely different angle on the standard exhaust to the Super Sports exhaust. Seems that when TVR Power fitted the new one they repositioned the bracket under the carpet in the boot by swivelling it 90 degrees so we had to but it back!

Can't believe how quite the old one it too so as soon as the Track Day's done the Super Sports exhaust will be straight back on!

Thanks for the advice.

Cheers.... Andrew
