A true 500bhp 996TT should just make a true 200mph (I'm talking GPS, not speedos). (500bhp/420bhp ^ (1/3) X 191mph stock speed = 202mph)
A 993GT2 with 500bhp will not reach 200mph, since a 430bhp stock car only reaches 185mph, the 500bhp car will reach circa 195mph (again true GPS not speedo readings).
In both cases this will require a very long straight, probably in excess of 3-4miles or with a fast approach, such as at Nardo in Italy or on the Autobahn.
Using shorter distances at legal venues in the UK ie Bruntingthorpe, Elvington or Woodbridge, the only Porsche to have ever hit 200mph was mine when it did 202mph at the last VMax. A 500bhp 996TT would be under 190mph at these venues.

Pretty sure in my hazy memory I saw the GPS hit 200 @ brunters in AdamTs pa's red beasty with young Adam at the wheel ages ago, speedo reading somat like 211.
Then again to be accurate, I suppose its not actually a Porsche

i thought dazren got upto 193mph with a mere 450 bhp a while back...
Major tailwind and speed trap nearer the edge of the runway than where VMAX currently set up at (speedo reading was 197, trap was 192/193?). Subsequent VMAXs have always shown the difference of 4mph to be constant.

my bro has a modified 996tt fettled by Cargraphic in germany. He's had new turbos put on it and it's supposed to be good for 550bhp. It certainly feels it. And by the way it flies to 160+ I can well believe it's capable of 200mph. He's not been much over 190 on the speedo himself but the 996 is a slippery sucker and the car is devastatingly fast over 100mph. But a genuine 200mph from 500bhp? I'm not sure. To get from 190 to 200 takes a disporportionate amount of power for the same car. It could easily require 100+ bhp more than the standard car.
The other issue is gearing. Will a 996 tt have long enough gearing to reach a genuine 200mph, regardless of it's power? A quick look in the manual will tell you. eg If the redline's 6500, you'll need an mph/1000revs gearing in top of at least 31mph/1000 to even reach 200. 30mph/1000 means topping out at 195. Then you have the issue of having enough power to pull the high enough gear etc.....

Vic, 550bhp in 993GT2 will hit 200mph according to the maths, so that makes sense. I did maths on 500bhp as that was start of discussion...... Guy
Of course orange would be faster, as it's a quicker colour........

Don't know for sure, I know it's never done it through the traps at VMax. Autocar tested both their cars for a 0-100-0 a couple of years back at Brunters using the full runway and a racing driver and the CTR did hit 200mph, the RTurbo did not......
Guy ,Ur lunch is getting smaller by the quote .............havent tried anything in Bluto suspect might not do it................it was just one of those things; like i am on my own , bored , i am in France lets see how fast it cud go ............of course the 3 read outs came from the same source but the digital KPH was well over required for 200 mph think the margin was fair to be a gen 200mph..............dont bother to bring a pencil next week ,we re not having a maths session!

I think it requires a cubing of power to double the speed (hence my maths). Taking as an example a Ford Sierra Cosworth, which does 151mph with 204bhp. If the rule was squaring, a 408bhp modified version would do 214mph (ie 151 * 2^0.5 = 151 * 1.414 = 214mph). If the rule is cube, then the answer is a more realistic 190mph, which equates to real life.
Rod's Cossie that has done 206mph at Woodbridge has circa 800bhp. If you used the square theory it produces a max speed of 300mph which is clearly unrealistic.....

Hey Guy, all of the above is acedemic until we get some numbers for the redline and the mph/1000 in top gearing. Until then it's just talking arse. The original question was could a 500bhp 996tt reach 200mph. First thing to find out is if any 996tt can reach 200 with standard gearing. 2nd thing is to find out how much power you need to get there (not so easy to answer accurately but the short answer is lots).

PS Your car looks like 200mph when it's stationary, so that counts in my book
