My trusty cobra detector says K band whenever I go past a fixed camera that happens to be on (for the record, that's about 5 % of normal location cameras & 85% of ones in roadworks areas)
On the few times that Johnny Law has pointed the hairdryer at me, the laser detection has activated & the K & Ka have remained silent????
Funnily enough, my VG2 alert (radar detector detector!) goes off a lot on the motorway & I can't seem to isolate the source. As far as I know, cops over here are not like the nazis in Oz & don't have detector detectors in the traffic cars.

Mine activated on the A9 with flashing lights and mobile showing so it does work brilliantly
and I did get nicked
The only way they are any use for the well hidden camera van is if someone else is getting targetted at a distance and the beamwidth of the laser has a chance to widen (with distance) and you detect it. AP brakes may help in slowing you down but as Windy M says you would need a reaction time of <300ms and instant braking. I need a Guardian Angel not a R**d Angel

actually as far as laser guns go they have been proven to be problematic and erratic with their readings and may well be worth fighting in the courts. It has been shown that using a laser it was possible to make a house appear to be moving at 40mph!!! Laser apparently is only accurate if the beam maintains a fixed position on your car, if it scans across your vehicle as you close in on the gun then it is highly suspect (ie if its hand held I'd ask the question). There are also apparently some rather nifty laser based garage opening systems which cause a scatter effect with the gun and make it fail. These are intended only to be "on" when you approach your garage and if the police gun fails again when it resets after 5 secs then you're going to get pulled for them to check. So in theory they can help if you can a)slow down and b)switch off the device all in under 5 secs from when your detector goes mental. If they get their way this will all be irrelevant anyway as the entire country will be being monitored and 50 million car journeys logged every day. They wont even need to leave the station to catch you - just hand the data to some poor sod in an Indian call centre and pay them £1 a month to hand out fines to everyone going 1mph over the limit.
I see that even the Europeans are joining in this month and starting to hand out points as well as fines and they'll be added to your licence wherever you live. They've hammered the smokers now its the car owners that are the new #1 public enemy.

Alas, the divergence of the beam in something like the LTI 20.20 is a titchy 3 milliradians. At 300m range, the beam is only a metre wide (hence why some dashtop detectors wont see it if its aimed at the number plate). Chances of scatter are about as much as finding that guardian angel! The only times mines ever detected laser is when the beam was directly on me. Fortunately, in all cases, the operators of the offending equipment had been visually spotted some time before, giving me the chance to confirm that I was, indeed, sticking rigidly to the speed limit!

During some of my work with vehicle manufacturers, I have been told that there is a directive from the evil empire (EEC) that the speedos of all vehicles manufactured within its jurisdiction have to be set to read an average of 5% over. Maybe because the Monaro is built in a country with more sense, they are allowed to make it read correctly !! Mine is also accurate to 1mph or better.
I have seen a parking aid for sale that happens to be laser-based. By coincidence it happens to use laser light very similar to that used in handheld speed guns. Fortunately in the event that the parking aid should happen to interfere with any other laser-based systems it will warn you and then switch itself off after a few seconds, which is nice.

I use a R**d Angel for everyday running around in my Corsa 1.3CDTi (2004 which is Spanish built) and the speedo is absolutley spot on with the GPS speed reading. Shame the guy who drives this car for me to deliver my work has been nailed 3 times in the last 6 months for speeding. He just won't have it from me that the speedo is spot on and even with the GPS unit in place, he just won't accept this modern advance in speed measurement. He still thinks that the speedo is cable driven...
I don't let him use my GPS as that'd only make him feel even more invincible plus he'd probably try to sue me if the laser detector didn't go off and in the process got another fine..
