Newbie to the board as well as to Porsche. Picked up a new 911 C2S Cab yesterday - Midnight blue with sand biege interior. Really pleased with it given that I have only put 30 miles on it!
I had one question which I am hoping someone may be able to help me with. I suspect that the dealer has fitted the wrong steering wheel to my car. I am sure I ordered the multi function steering wheel - however the one fitted is the thicker sports steering wheel. I will track down my original order to confirm. If they have made a mistake, would it be reasonable for them to replace the steering wheel with the one I wanted?

Yes, of course, if you ordered it with a different wheel and paid for it as such, then they should fix things free of charge.
The sports wheel may be nicer tho'; make sure you don't regret rectifying their mistake
See how the next 30 miles go... you may prefer a chunkier wheel to one with all those bells and whistles.

Multi-function wheel was only available as an option is you ordered Sat Nav as well from my recollection so assuming you have that, then there is a good chance you would have ordered the wheel too.
I do miss not having the multi function wheel on my 996 - various cars this week I've test driven have all had it and it just feels right!

I checked my paperwork and indeed, they have fitted the wrong steering wheel. I popped round to the OPC, who also checked and confirmed that they have made a mistake. They were very apologetic and have said that they will try to get this corrected. According to them, it may not be possible to correct!!!
They are due to call me back today to let me know what can be done.
Although the car is fantastic - I always have a huge grin on my face when I drive it - I am a little annoyed at this especially if they cannot correct their own mistake.
Does anyone know whether this can be corrected just in case they try to BS their way out of it?

You will be entitled to give them the car back and get a replacement. The first Boxster S I bought was five months old and was a "reject" based on incorrect specification.
Depending on who made the error (dealer or factory) I think quite a bollocking gets dished out.
If you decide to accept the car, even though it has the "wrong" steering wheel they should *do* something for you. Maybe send you on a Porsche driving course or give you some luggage.

Do you have the Sports Chrono ? (I don't).
I picked up my C4S on Saturday, and I specified the fatter-rim Sports wheel, as (coming from an M3) I felt the standard wheel was too thin. Unless you think the buttons on the wheel are essential, I'd keep the wheel you've got (and make them give you some compensation (refund the price paid etc)?

The car is a tip gearbox and does have the Sport Chrono Pack. I have just been told that they cannot fit the wheel that I ordered - again they were very apologetic. The salesguy said he wasn't sure what to do and he would call me back!!!!

As for compensation, not sure how much of a fuss to make! I was going to book the car in to get the front air bag disarmed (for a baby seat) - would it be unreasonable to ask them to do this free of charge?

If you really want /(ed) the other wheel then switching the airbag off doesn't really cut it in terms of compensation. It is their error - even if you are happy with the new wheel then make them sing for their supper

You could deline the car & get a new one, which would mean a wait of months, or you could accept the car & get on with driving it.
I'd say the least of your problems is the steering wheel. I'd be more concerned about them not putting in a proper gearbox

As a starting point you should get back what you paid for the steering wheel - £427 ?
On top of that then you should be due some compensation - maybe sorting the airbag for the baby seat for free? Having said that, I thought when I was flicking through the manual at the weekend, it told you how to do this yourself?

Thanks for your replies - you are right Hobo - I love driving the car - its not as if I have to reach across a continent to turn the radio/CD on etc
Is the mistake such a big deal - not really. Will ask for a refund for the wheel and a deal on the air bag disarming.
To be frank, the salesguy has been great through out the entire experience - they didnt even take the full deposit once the car was being assembled!
Will get on with enjoying the car and not worrying about a relatively minor point

I think the manual refers to an optional extra - which my car doesn't have. The 911 is just meant to be a fun car, with the X5 being used to transport our son (15 months old). After getting the car, I thought it might be fun to be able to pop out with him in the 911. Will be seeing the sales manager tomorrow to see what they can do about the airbag.

congratulations on the car. However i would strongly advise you not to accept anything from the opc. The answer is that you specced the car as you wanted it and they messed up. Having had several problems with my old z4 and viewing other forums about poor dealer behaviour (no reference to poor car dealer) they will only respect you once you remind them that as the customer you are the bosss. Just because the car is awesome with the sports wheel it may be more awesome to you with the wheel you ordered (otherwise why did you bother).
I suggest you inform them in writing that they are in breach of their contract, under the sale of goods act you are rejecting the goods and would like a full refund forthwith, their only other option being to provide you with the car you ordered and in the mean time a suitable courtesy car. It will be much cheaper for them to do the latter than to refund you the £8,0000 or so margin they have made out of you.
Do not let them sweet talk you or pull the wool over your eyes. Get what you want and what you paid for.
