Quick licence question about engine sizes, sorry!

I've had a look around on google but I can't get a proper answer to my question.

I'm not allowed another bike/scooter* of any size next year ( ), although quads havn't been mentioned . I'd love a road legal quad, they just look soooo cool and I'd get so many looks going to school on it...and it would also give people a bit of a laugh

So could I ride a 110cc road legal quad on a full car licence? Would I need L plates? I might do a bike test anyway (any excuse to get on a bigger bike ) but it would probably have to wait till next year...unless I have a reason to do one. Seems such a waste of one years NCB if I don't get a bike

Yes no problem at all up to a 125cc, however you must display an "L" plate

Getting a road legal quad is not that easy. I thnk they have to be registered as farm vehicles or the like. Also quads handle like pooh on hard surfaces unless you can get a 125 with a diff.
Finally license wise are they not bikes due to a lack of weight/reverse gear. Don't you get banded from bikes for a year if you don't get your ticket within the year.
If you can't have a bike due to parental pressure move out and do your own thing or suck it up and wait until you can support yourself.

Just forget about the bike for now....I know it's tough but in the long term you'll end up with a better bike and no arguments with your parents. I guess I was lucky with my dad as he doesn't mind bikes but with my mum it was a whole different ball game. She despises bikes and hated every second of the time I had one (7 years) and I had to endure a lot of arguments and shouting (especially when I came off).

In any case, I'd also forget about the quad as Smart mentioned, they are a pain to get on the road and they don't handle very well.

Damn I sound like an old fogie!

I know they aren't as good as proper bikes, but my circumstances mean that I probably can't afford a decent car, so I'll end up with a crappy corsa or Fiesta . I need a toy, and as a track car is to expensive and a I'm not allowed a bike I thought a quad might be good fun. Maybe just to use during the summer as a bit of fun, or for short journeys to friends houses or to pick up something for the shops.

And I need somewhere to put my private reg plate as the car I get next summer may not be young enough to put it on, and I really don't want to get rid of it!

No Quads are pretty lousy on the road and I presume your good folks have an issue with how many Bikers get crunched by "retinally challanged car drivers shall we say" So if safety is the key point. Swerve the sucker for now!

A normal bike is safer on the roads then a quad, HONESTLY.

I know its not as fun but tbh a car is a better investment at your ages. Even if it is a crappy fiesta/corsa. You can fit your mates in it, be warm, dry and relativley safe. Long distantce wont be much of a problem whereas on a quad it will be a pain.

I've been told bluntly - if I get a bike I get kicked out! Seriously!

And about a quad being a bad investment, well whats worse, losing a couple of hundred quid on a quad and insurance, or around £1500+ on car insurance alone, then car depreciation...

I was being sarchastic!!!! Your not serious!? You want to get kicked out of your home over a bike!? Surely there are better things in life!!!!????

I wasn't seriously suggesting you move out but if you have to have a bike that is your only choice.
Quads are lethal. If you don't have a rear diff then you can omly corner by spinning the back wheels. Not ideal on the road.
I have rolled a quad over me and it hurts. Ask Rik Mayall or Ozzy Ozbourne how much getting hit by a quad hurts!. I was lucky as I just got pushed deeper into the mud.
You are young, take a reality check you can't have a bike and can't insure a decent car. Welcome to life. Unless you get unlucky you have a load of time for decent cars and bikes be patient you don't have to every thing in life before you are 20.
