guys, at what point did you take your cars off the dolly and put them on the floor. i'm thinking it may be a good idea to do the pre fit on the dolly and then put the car on the floor after that.

Hi Dave,

As long as you have the fixed lengh bars on instead of the shocks I found the body was best fitted on the dolly. There is a whole lot of adjustment to be made and the 1230mm dimension for fitting the side pods is a guide only........unless you wanna drive around with the nearside (LH) pod rubbing on the front wheel! The bit of the body that I found dictates the whole assembly is the cockpit. As this is governed by the front chassis cross members and pretty good measurements by the factory.

How did you get on Dave?

I've dropped mine to the floor with the fixed lengh square sections in place and the suspension set to 0 camber 0 toe. I can get good shut lines, but:

1) The front wheels 'hang out' from the body at the top a few mil.
2) The front lower 'flap' of the o/s side pod seems to flare out more than the n/s.
3) The front clip fouls the o/s tyre as it is opened if the wheel are dead ahead.
4) front wheels are v.close to the side pods on turning - about 5 mil.

Can anyone tell me if any of this is expected and will the final suspension settings relieve any of the above?

That seems to be bringing back some memories! When some camber is dialed in I think that will cure your slight wheel overhang at the top as the wheels will slope inwards a little.

With mine the front lower part of the wheel arch can just catch the wheels when the front is lifted up when the wheels are not quite straight ahead, but in any case it is all quite tight.

The main point is does it look right? Right to left are notable different in places but you will only be aware of that fact!

hi pete, didnt manage to get any car stuff done this weekend (crappy b& q bath) , i hope ultima grp is better than b & q (im sure it is Ted ;-) )
ive heard other people saying about the front canopy touching the wheels when its opened, maybe a good e-mail to the factory as i recall something about choppping that corner off. you better check first though i dont want to be held responsible for hacking the bodywork to bits. lol.

I've left mine on the dolly to final fit the body. Rivetting the panels on won't be much fun once its on the floor.

Just one more thing (then I'll shut up), does everyone stick to 1/8th body buffers? They do tend to keep the gap at......err......1/8th, when the moulded shut lines of say the cockpit to side pod rear horizontal gap is fixed at what looks guite a bit less??

I put painted ali strips between the body and side pods behind the doors so that that shut line was 1,6mm wider. This evens things up a bit.

I've found the 'standard' size looks too small in places, although it does even the gaps nicely in most. I've decided to stick with the standard size and let it settle after its warmed up a few times, then see if anything needs to change.
