Took the car out today to give it a good run. Whilst driving "lets just say fairly fast", my rear windscreen just decided that enough was enough and dissappeared from view. Went back to the spot and found it smashed in half. Luckily I was in the middle of nowhere, as if this had hit someone then the "no win, no fee" sharks would of taken me to the cleaners!! Has this happened to anyone else? And more importantly does anyone know where I can get a new windscreen?

This is not an unusual happening with earlier cars, but with main roof panel off. Never heard of it with roof on. A main dealer can order you a replacement, and I think the fit is tighter now. Cost a year or so ago was around £150. Might be an idea to get new clips as well while you are at it. I always remove screen and roof in the summer, if rear window only is in I dont exceed 80mph just in case.

There's a chance that due to the cold weather, the rear screen had contracted slightly in size, loosening the grip of the clips.
Just a thought, especially if parked outside.

Interesting........mine stayed in with the roof off at 150mph on track...but there again I dont tend to take it in or out so the clips are still probably good.

Actually, you heard it here second. If you sift through previous posts it happened to me early last year, although one of my clips had indeed snapped in half but my roof was on at the time! Bought new clips and rear screen from HHC and IIRC the clips were about 20 odd quid and the screen about 80 quid. New screen is that little bit larger so gives a snugger fit and had no trouble with it since. Happy motoring.

Ditto 2 years ago a new Jag had to swerve to miss it flying at him down the middle lane of the M56
