External hard drives

I need to clear a credit from my PC World account ( only 3 years old, just can't get them to give it me back) so was going to buy a new 160gb external back-up drive.

We hope to move to Firewire in a couple of months. Can I use a firewire external drive with my existing wired system until we get the rest of the FW suff installed does anyone know?

Firewire is a connection standard IEE1394a

All you need to use it is a Firewire port on your PC, which it will either have or could be added via a PCI card.
