He did it!
Finally my dad sorted his 99MY V8 Rangie, as you will have seen from the pervious post, the performance had dropped off and when cold the engine was a dog, giving fault codes about lean mixture. It all kicked off when he rebuilt the engine.....
To cut a long and expensive story short, he took it to a diagnostic specialist who reset the defaults in all the cars ECUs, this showed up the cause of the problem all along - a dicky AFM, it had drifted out of calibration over the last few years (and was not showing a fault code) which had adversly effected the engine maps as the engine learned to cope with the gradual change!! It is now better than when it came off the production line.
Finally the gearbox is now changing up into 4th at the correct rpm/load and MPH, what really piss$s you off is the fact that two visits to a LR main dealer were not productive at all, my dad was basicaly told that the gearbox was fine and he was imagining it :-) Now we know better. I guess it is as we have all known for many years, the aftermarket rocks!!
