My 3200 has just gone in for a repalcement coil pack (see check engine thread). The Manchester dealership is going to charge me £250+ vat for the diagnostics (told them what was wrong when it went in)+ another £150 for sorting it. Then £800 ish for an anual service (this is the one after the main belt service and the car has only done 7K miles since and done 72K in total). Then £400 ish for a four wheel align. Does this sound right?

it does sound very expensive....my Assetto Corsa is in now with Lancaster Maserati in Colchester and with them collecting and delivering the car the annual service will be £650 inc VAT.

The service showed nothing that needed doing...when have you EVER heard of a main dealer not finding additional work?!

they were pleasant to deal with very easy...I would highly recommend them. They even fixed the windscreen rubber which was slightly coming away for free!

Paul is the service guy.

Also had the alloys redone for £80 a wheel....amazed just amazed

Some specialists advertise £695+VAT for a 6k service, I'm not suprised the dealer is a little more. Assuming Mancester is convinient, you could call www.j-m-h.co.uk/ about the wheel alignment.

The £400 for the wheel alignment is surely a joke! I know for a fact that many dealers simply send the cars to a specialist for this to be done, so deal direct with the experts and it should cost less than £100.

My annual service plus 4 wheel align plus clutch slave cylinder was about £1200 at Lancaster Colchester which didn't seem too bad. Regarding wheels I had all four Asseto Corsa wheels (dark grey ones) refurbished at AMC Alfa in Chelmsford for £50 per wheel, at the same time they also did a great job of removing a bumper scrape and respraying the rear bumper for £250

You are being taken for a ride.

I've just had the same minor service done with Dick Lovett for £501 inc. VAT.

Also had a perfect alloy refurb done @ 46 quid per rim.

I have a question for you, it touches on the legal side of your problem but it could save you a fortune. How was the contract instruction written, i give you two instructions below but results are very different.

1) Inv engine running poorly - This is why you are being charged all that money, which is very very expensive.

2)Replace faulty coil - They cannot legally charge you for any diagnosis because you have requested the coil to be replaced , not have the car investigated - sounds silly but trust me a worthy argument. Always haggle as well.

We are not close to you but we would only have charged about £150+vat for the whole lot!!!!!

Got the car back on Friday after 2 weeks. My pocket is over £1100 lighter (Annual service plus coil pack) . Passed on the 4 wheel align after they raised the price to £500 +VAT. Anyone know of a specialist in the Blackpool area?

You said previously they would carry out a diagnostic check presumably included in the price paid - What was the cause of the blown coil?

They diddn't tell me. The service receptionist is very nice but not very mechanically minded, won't let you near a mechanic and relays all the questions. You eventually get bored of the inaccurate answers and give up!! I notice they have repaired the wiring loom where it enters the coil bank so suspect that. Funny they must have had this off 2 months ago when the replaced the rocker cover gasket?!
