I know this has been dealt with in recent in recent posts but I wonder if some of you could indulge me with some power and torque outputs for standard or slightly modified 5litre engines. I know that on the road performance is a different and more complex issue than the headline numbers, but .....

To keep it simple please could you just post the Max torque and BHP and a simple note of how modified the engine is. If we can get enough replies it would be interesting to make a table showing the norm for different setups.

On a 98 500 I have recently had a Cam, Injectors, ACT trumpets, MA chip and set-up. Max power 287, Max Torque 326. I would like to have an idea if this is good, bad or about average.

Nice idea but I'd guess that the variety of rolling roads out there will give different results (even with the same engine) so building an accurate picture will be difficult at best. I've seen a few threads on the Cerb forum which demonstrate how difficult it is!

Looking at those figures for all you folks, Bluey is gonna struggle to reach 250 bhp & 300 lbs/ft at wheels cos he's just STANdard

No matter what, the V8 in Wedge, Griff & Chim all sound better than in the Cerby

Perhaps what I should have asked as well as the power figures, is does your car pull cleanly from low revs on a light throttle ? mine did but it doesn't now.

Same mods as balistic banana but with TVR power sports cam.

I had the tvr power cam fitted first which uses the eprom chip.Noticeable power improvement from 4000rpm but irratic idle and low speed hunting made life difficult around town. The extra mods at Austic with Mark adams chip brought about a total transformation ; engine pulls alot stronger, revs more freely up to 6500 and now puts a big smile on my face .Still hunts a bit and and i would like to raise the torqe a bit more . Mark has agreed to look at this.I think these mods will suit most people although not those seeking 350bhp+

1999 Griff 500 making around 300bhp & 325lbft (depending on which rolling road it's on) Runs very smoothly with no hunting, shunting or any other 'unting However, since going the "no pre-cats" route last year I get an annoying grey haze over the rear-end of the car after only 50 miles it must be un-burnt fuel but I had Mark Adams look at this at year Austec, spent half a day there on the rollers, cost me a grand but didn't solve the problem So... asside from this issue I am a happy bunny.

It's got:- TVR Power Cam, Solid Lifters, ACT Carbon Plenum & Twin Throttles, Jag' Air Flow Meter, Tornado Chip, Stainless ACT Manifolds without pre-cats and with reversing cones, Bosch Injectors, Bosch coil, Magnacore leads.

Exactly, it went sort of along the lines of - Me... "I've fitted one of ACT's stainless manifolds with no pre-cats so I think the Chip could do with a 'fettle' by Mark Adams. Oh and I've got a strange grey haze appearing on the rear of the car since I swapped the manifolds." Paul at Austec; "No problem bring it in." 1/2 hour on the rolling road and a slight misfire detected at a certain rev range due to the coil. So... swap coil for better one and get talked into swapping the Lucas injectors for Bosch ones - much better spray pattern. Just in case I also buy a set of nice blue Magnacore leads 'cos they are much better. Oh, and fit new otter switch because old wasn't working properly. Back on rollers for another hour or so; result 325 ft lbs torque as opposed to 285-290 ft lbs previously but still that bloody grey haze all over the back when I get home! Rich...

My local rollers charged £50 per hour, do Austec charge £200 an hour?

HiTech R.R.

Standard apart from blue magnicors.

Oh, with knackered diff, coil and suspected precat 'problem'.

Will take it for another run when I get it back from the above being sorted.

In fairness if you look at my follow-up post there was a lot of parts, I think the injectors were £650 alone... just want to get the grey haze fixed now!

On my 430 I get grey haze on one side only. The conclusion my tuner came to was that because the exhaust pipe on one side ends about 1" shorter than the other that a lengthening of that pipe would solve the problem. Might be worth comparing with other Griffs.

Nah, can't be because for the first 6 years of it's life it was fine. It's only since I de-pre-catted it Rich...

Rich,i think Peter may have something here. Its similar to what i was thinking also.Taking the precats out would have stopped the grey deposits from being filtered from the exhaust gasses.Depending on where abouts in relation to the rear of your car,the tailpipes sit, height, distance etc, might determine the type of particles(differing substances and densities) that get deposited on the rear end due to the airflow pattern or lack of airflow at the rear.
I never had this deposit,when i had removed the pre-cats,and still don't now i'm fully de-catted,btw.
