My p&j isn't very well
Discussion
I was out for a drive in my Chim this afternoon, roof off, windows down, sun shining, big grin etc etc perfect day apart from the traffic (got caught in a few saturday jams).
I had the sat-nav plugged in and the stereo playing new c.d (Ian Dury & The Blockheads)all going fine untill i was in a jam going into Bromley and noticed oil pressure gauge showing just below 15 then sat-nav kept on disconnecting and running on battery power only but when i looked at the cigarette lighter plug it was in o.k and the light was on, then the c.d started playing all funny, i started getting nervous so i switched them both off, i rechecked the oil pressure and was nearly down to 0.
I managed to get out of Bromley and headed off to Shortlands and got moving o.k but oil pressure was only on 30 when driving and before i knew it the car stopped in Bromley Rd right in the bit where they are doing roadworks so could not get the car to the side of the road properly.
I phoned the A.A and spent an hour wating patiently for them whilst watching the reactions of other drivers
at the couple of porker drivers who thought it would be funny to bib on there horn as they went past and
at the "chav" who thought it would be funny to let me know that they are cr*p cars even when they're going, i even watched someone in my rear view mirror come up the road behind me and the passenger was taking a picture of my p&j (with bonnet up)on his mobile phone.
The A.A man arrived (who was a very nice man
) and within 5 minutes he told me it was the alternator and had the car started albeit with a battery pack on my passenger seat and he followed me home as he told me i'd have to wait another hour for a tow truck.
We limped home and my p&j is now in my garage waiting for me to phone D.M to get them to come and sort it out for me (it's due a service aswell very soon so i'll get that done aswell)

It may not be the alternator.
I had a similar problem where the oil pressure dropped to zero and the car spluttered to a halt.
Turned out to be the Fuse link. About £1.00 to buy. A lot cheaper than a new alternator.
Mounted on the front driver's side chasis rail. Looks like this.

Similar thing happened to me on the day I bought the car.People beeping horn's e.t.c pi--ed me right off.
The dealer put in a gallon of fuel to get me 4 mile to the local petrol station, got onto the dual c way and traffic stopped and it ran out in the area where the cones went into a single lane,i had to park it on the grass, 8.pm dark, snowing, 300mile trip back home over mountains of Wales, and to cap it they forgot to put the battery on charge. As i ran down the road to the petrol station all i could think of is shunted Chim and a battery which would drain before the fuel pump primed the motor. Anyway it started and I got home at 3.00am a little worn out after my 600 mile round trip and my first drive (300miles is it going to leak e.t.c) and concern of spending a lot of money which my better half was not over keen about.
Anyway it was worth all the agro !!.

Just a reply to say i finally got my P&J back today.
The initial fault with the car WAS the alternator and has been done (luckily i took out auto protect mechanical breakdown insurance) which payed for the repair
Had the 48k service done at the same time plus extras that needed doing.
1, n/s shock faulty (replaced x2)
2, rear tyres on the limit (replaced x2)
3, slight oil leak from sump
4, disks reskimmed x4
Took the car for a drive tonight for the first time in 2 weeks and have to say it was like driving it for the first time
weather forecast hopefully looking good for the weekend as i've filled it up tonight and aim to be empty again on Sunday
