If the choice of your next car with a budget of £14k would be between either a Honda S2000 or a Honda Integra Type R DC5 what car would people opt for?

Driving habbits are mostly awsome Welsh mountain roads, with a trip or two by dual carrige way.

Hopefully the car will also be used for a trip round Europe next year.

Insurance costs etc not a problem.

Both of those cars were on my MAYBE list when I bought my Evo a year ago.

I really like the rarity of the DC5 although it has been said the steering is not the equal of the DC2's.

Interestingly, the guy that owned my Evo had a DC5 before and he just didn't get on with it - he had a DC2 before and everything (including the Evo) was compared against that.

S2000 is a lovely car and for hooning through the countryside what could be better than an open top car. Downside IMO is that they are too common.

Rear wheel drive wins every time for me. The fact its a drop top just makes it even better.
My profile contains running costs over three years if thats any use to you.
Two pieces of advice:

Get over to www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showforum=25
Buy a warranty as the major components are very very expensive - you probably wont need it, but its not worth the risk.

If you don't need 4 seats then S2000 every time.

I can't believe someone said they're common Compared with the competition (Boxster, Z4, 350z, RX8 etc etc) they are quite rare, certainly around my way (SE London/ Kent). I see maybe 2-3 a month.

Comptech and Vortech both do a supercharger kit.

Has to be the S2000, but then I'm biased. The S2000 is the quicker car by some margin in a straight line, and on the corners it's in a league of its own.

I love the DC5 though, but the S2000 is just a proper topless sports car, and that's what I really wanted when I had the choice of the two.

Agree.. Like the DC, but the 2K is another class. not only in looks, but even if it was a little slower, I'd plum for the 2K

Oh
Sorry, but I'm in exactly the same position...you just can't help it. DC2 is a legend...not for outright pace, but for doing everything a driver wants, and doing it all well. And at speeds which are legal (well, nearly).

I'm getting an '03 S2000 on Saturday, fingers crossed. Tried a DC5 but it just didn't do it for me - unless you change the suspension (and possibly put it on 16" rims), you'll find it all-at-sea on a rough Welsh B-road, while an '02 S2000 will soak up a lot more bumps and remain unflustered...essentially all DC5's are set-up for Jap roads, not UK.

S2000 - drop-top, good residuals, rwd, better suspension for B-roads. Handful in wet, rear apparently twitchy at the limit. Steering needs more feel.

DC5 - monster chassis/suspension on smooth tarmac, more flexible engine (less need to rag sh't out of it...although still fun to do), more practical, safer in the wet, also needs more steering feel (weighty, but feels numb and artificial...change to 16"s might help).

I think it depends what you're used to and what you'll be using the car for.
If you're coming from fwd and it's an everyday car, the DC5 would be the safer bet, just ask around what can be done about the secondary ride. Change that and it would be a very good car - effectively a CTR in a nice shell with an LSD and hydraulic PAS.
If you're used to rwd, or it's an occasional car, then for me the S2k would be the choice.

One off-the-wall thought - VX220. Not QUITE as quick as those two, but a hell of a lot of fun at any speed. If the boot had been a bit bigger and the interior wider, the S2k wouldn't have got a look in.

i've had my s2k for a few years now.

I suggest that you take it on the track asap to see what it can really do.. (and learn the limits) the car is outstanding.

And who ever said they were common? wft .. i bet you mean MX5's

I agree, they are totally wonderful and I'm really not sure what to replace mine with - 4 very happy years of motoring behind me, loads of Euro trips and even a Nurburgring lap! The car is truly amazing around there...
