hi, just aquired a jago which has sat for some years in a friends garden, his dad built it approx 1986 with a 2 ltr pinto and it got ragged around for a few years before being parked up in his garden, i have wanted to buy it for the last ten years but it was never for sale, unfortunately its been partially dismantled but i collected it yesterday and was surprised as to how much is still there, its got a great roof and doors, the engine and all ancillaries are there, the shell is okay but there is no floor at all, the shell and chassis aren't together, so for the moment i can concentrate on mechanicals becaouse they are easy to get too! a couple of questions i am sure someone can answer, What fuel tank goes in the car?? is it a jago built one or donated from another car?, also i have read the tech pages on replacing the floor, do i need to get the floor fitted and bonded to the shell then fit to the chassis, obviously i will need to make provision for handbrake and gear change, or offer the shell to the chassis on tressles and fit the floor then?? I am in Hayle in Cornwall if there are any local jagos i can go and look at, thanks Mark

Hi
The petrol tank is from the Mk1 or Mk2 Escort estate or van.
I understand there is still a company out there making theses tanks but can't recall their details.
If you are stuck for an Escort tank try to find a VW Polo tank from a 1985 model. The part number is RK-952 600-8

As for the floor to a certain degree it is easier to bond the floor into the tub before refitting it to the chassis (thats the way they were done at the factory). To overcome the problem of where the handbrake and gear lever goes then yes placing the tub over the chassis on tressles will help to locate where the required slots/holes need to be.

Hope this has helped you out and welcome to the fun that is being a Jago Owner.

thanks a lot, very quick reply, i know a man who breaks old vw's so that should source that one for me, i am involved with www.barcelonabangers.co.uk and the jago just seemed ideal, its to easy to go and buy a car for 30 quid(nova, fiesta whatever!) and drive to spain, but the jago is more of a challenge(not the actual trip, just putting it together angain) thanks again for your help, i expect i have many many more questions need answering! thanks jon, you are closer than you think, i work in porkellis, thats where the jeep is at the moment, i am looking hard for info on dumping the pinto in favour of either zetec or cvh, seems the cvh only has one engine mount and i need to move the alternator, etc etc etc, so now i am on the look out for a 1.8 sierra, that way i will get the 5 speed box as well and it all mates up like i need, thanks for your post i may come and have a nose

Hi again.

Either 1.8 Sierra or ex late model Transit is the way to go as both are unleaded. If you try any other CVH or Zetec you still have to use the 1.8 Sierra Clutch and Flywheel - unless you want an engineering job.

Sunday April 9th we are hopefully holding a South West Jago meet near Okehampton. The Details are going on the club site.

As it is the beginning of the membership year I would advise joining the JOC for the insurance discount if nothing else. Seriously nearly all of us need the club and without members there would be no club.
