chassis slight rust?

Just had m.o.t done when up on ramps noted a bit of rust hear and there on chassis nothing serious yet but any ideas to protect chassis from this getting worse and cost.

If its only slight, then get it Waxoil coated underneath, you can either buy it yourself or take it to an indie and they`ll spray it on, underside will need to be washed and dried before coating.

Or you can go the whole hog and sand the rust off and paint with hammerite, but expect to be on your ass underneath the car for about 8 hours

If the rust is already there then there is no point in just waxoiling over the top of it as far as I am aware. Waxoil seals but does not kill the rust, therefore it will continue to eat away underneath the coating. You want to get the rust sorted first and then use a protective layer. Alternatively some use POR15 which I believe does both jobs and with good results.

As for cost if paying someone then it's a case of how long is a piece of string. Its mostly labour costs but impossible to say how long it might take them.

if you have a liitle rust at the rear there is likely to be rather more at the front. Have a look at my thread "what a lovely chassis" from 3 months ago which gives you detauils of how I treated mine.

Likewise, when I saw the underside of mine (while it was on an AA low loader sadly), I noticed some rust on the chassis outriggers.

While it's in with them, the guys at David Gerald TVR have helped to clean this off, and have applied Waxoyl to them for me (this is normal practice for them, so thumbs up to David Gerald for that).
