Power steering for my 280 - I've done it!
Discussion
Today was the momentus occasion, I finally took it down off the axle stands where it has been for the past 5 months. Started up and turned the steering wheel and yipee it turned as easy a pie and the pump made a lovely wining sound. Isn't it great when all your hard work comes together.
Left the engine idling to check that the new electric fan worked. After about 15 mins and at 90F up it started.
The really frustrating thing is I can't drive it until April as it's SORN and I'm a mean-arse and don't want to pay for a years worth of road tax.
Here are some pictures of the final result.
You can just see the rack and the new brace here.
You will notice that I had to remount the radiator in front of the upright mounting struts. This was to clear the new air ducting hose because....
I had to butcher the air filter box in order to get the PAS pump in.
This also necessitated running a pipe to a relocated air filter right down in the nosecone.
Still this should catch colder air than from inside the engine bay as per the original.
Finally, the alternator had to be raised up by about 4" in order to clear the new steering shaft and power rack.
So, all in all I'm feeling rather pleased with myself.
Now I have time to fix the electric mirrors and the heater fan before I gut the MOT and tax in April, cos I won't be doing anything except driving it during the summer.

A/C?
That's what the soft top is for isn't it?
I have Richard Thorpe to thank for the PAS.
I phoned him up because he said in his on line catalogue "PAS conversions all models phone for details" and then he said it's an easy job all you need is a MKIV cortina rack and a pump.
I suppose if you build racing wedges it is easy but I have to say it was rather more involved than I originally expected. What's more it has cost £600. Would have been cheaper to buy another car!
The trouble is my car is such a cracker I don't want to sell it. 100% original 38K miles unmarked body and spotless chassis, what would you do?
