Like always I get the latest news out first
(just wish I had a stock cerbie to bang one on)

TCS said:

Advanced orders are now being taken for the TVR Cerbera 4.5 short induction system.

Pioneered by TCS, this induction system is a derivitive of the first Cerbera induction system to break 400bhp on a std remapped car. Further development by Julian Marshall has produced a kit that reduces the fabled Cerbera "camel hump" torque curve to a minimum.

With remapping this kit shows no loss of low end power, but significant gains over 3000rpm. If you want the best possible chance of a non red-rose car breaking 400bhp you have to run a short tuned length induction system. With this system, linked decat pipes and a bespoke remap an Emerald ECU equipped Cerbera 4.5 has just made 410bhp on our dynomometer, so for any Cerbera in good health 400bhp is a realistic goal with a remap using this induction kit.

About bloody time! The guru of cerbie tuning has done the business

I wander? This kit with headporting could really bring some 420+ numbers to the table!!!!

Well done guys!!! So about £350 plus vat for the pipes. Then chipping as well I assume.
Good value I would say.

Does the kit include replacement backplate or just the pipes... Could a backplate be included as an option?

If this includes a back plate then I'd say yes value for money!

If not then I'd say maybe not as there only SFS silicon pipes. They cost similar sort of money from most distributors and are one of the cheaper silicon pipes on the market.

I maybe talking out of turn and Joolz has some "specials" but they dont look any different to the normally available ones.

They are different ie they are a different length and have been made especially (I assume).
I am sure there is a healthy profit margin there for them. But good luck to them. They look good for bhp !

No back plate from what I can see and I suspect they have been specially produced ie odd lengths, diameters and angles. Still dear at £40 = vat per pipe.

However, I'm torn between these and the ACT set, especially as I need the back plate!

Yes Craig, you are talking slightly out of turn.

These silicon hoses have been developed to produce the performance figures stated, this has involved hours of research, development and testing. The final product is a shaped pipe that retains the original 70-50mm reducing dimension with a graduated offset to allow fitment. The other kits require a backplate for two reasons, 1) to improve upon the existing backplate / trumpets and 2) to help fitment of the pipes, of which they retain a 50mm diameter, which on testing restricts the amount of potential the pipes can give.

SFS are not necessarily an inferior supplier of hoses, they will make whatever you request as long as detailed CAD drawings are supplied, they also supply another well known act in the TVR community. Samco etc all quoted as well as some you wouldn't have heard of, and tbh the quality between them was negligable.

The ones in the picture above are not the final version, they are the original ones I bought and modified during testing on my own car.

The main plus with these pipes is that they are performance proven, and offer excellent VFM over what is currently on offer in the market place.

The more proven products we have available for our Cerbs the better

Didn;t realise the other kits reduced the inlet diameter of the hose! Very bad. These look better in my eyes then. More area the better.

They are no more expensive than the original extremely poor quality, restrictive TVR std purple pipes.

The other kits on the market retail at £650 + VAT + additional 2 hours fitting, but these do include backplates.

Another kit on the market is good news for owners, the more proven options the better.

ps Why do you need new backplates?

First batch will all be black, but thereafter colour options may be available, best bet would be to contact Joolz at Track Car Solutions, or through his PH name Trackcar.

With due respect, to say that a 50 mm hose restricts the flow is incorrect - for instance the diameter within the throttle bodies is smaller again - 45 mm irrc. The 45mm section is a greater restriction than 50mm and therefore a 50mm diameter section is not a limiting factor. Further, Tuscan racer throttle bodies are still less than 50mm in diameter and these engines generate significantly more power than our road cars. Therefore, I'm afraid I can't see the basis for your statements.

Thanks mate makes it a bit clearer but as far as value for money goes you cant compare the others against these as you get carbon back plates with the others and not just pipes!

I also though looking though previous posts that Joolz first set that were on CJs car (?) were not tapered and were moddified from a standard available pipe! Or is that wrong too?

I do agree that yes great they give more power which is what its all about.

Well that contradicts all the testing we did with various lengths and diameter of pipes, quite clearly by maintaining the straight 50mm diameter all the way down the hose we noticed more restriction to mapping capabilities and certainly less power and torque, by re-introducing the diameters at 70 reducing down to 50mm the window for mapping increased along with power and torque. The gains in horsepower and torque spread speak for themselves as I have already highlighted in my "Various States of Tune Thread" - www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&t=223033.

The basis is that the dyno shows an improvement over the original versions I did, which used a 50mm carbon trumpet .. getting rid of this trumpet upped the hp .. whether you like the basis of this statement or not, it's true! In fact cyclone's car is outperforming ceejay's car all the way now and ceejay had a lot of expensive inlet work also .. don't forget we're 12 months down the line from the initial development, a lot has been proven in that timespan

Craig,

You are quite right about Joolz using Ceejays car with straight hoses as opposed to the reducing ones I have been testing and using, it was seeing what Joolz had done with the straight hoses that prompted me to call on the Engineers and designers that I work with to come up with a more effective design that allows a more efficient flow of air at a set of given volumes, the final design is the best compromise of the lot.

The ACT kit includes some sexy backplates and trumpets which I have already commended and have actually stated in a previous thread that I would have considered buying, however, I became bitten with the research and achievement bug and therefore couldn't let this one go until the best solution had been achieved, I do not need backplates or trumpets, I just need more efficient better designed hoses that give me more BHP and torque spread.....these deliver that and then some, meaning I only have to pay half of what the competitors are asking for.

Jules.
