First of all.....hello people! im toying with the idea of selling my tvr cerbera to buy a bike engined kit car such as the westfield megablade, or i quite like the look of the stm zx9 on the classifieds (anyone know it or its owner?). Anyway, i want a bike engine as im not allowed a real bike, heh heh, and its the closest thing ill get to owning one. Its going to be my 2nd car as i have another for work/commute/etc. All the maintenance will be done by myself being a mech engineer by trade.

I was wondering if there was anyone near Oxfordshire area i could meet up with to chat with/be taken out in your bec?

10,000 miles is 'near' in a galactic sense

More than happy to take you for a run if you're coming south

Hopefully someone more sensible will turn up shortly . . .

Mornin

Can't help with your request, but just a quick hello from someone who did something similar to you. I bought a Fireblade engined MK Indy and, erm, haven't yet got round to selling my TVR Griffith! Will be selling it when the weather gets a bit more soft-top friendly.

speed8 on these forums also recently sold his Cerb and is building a BEC MAC#1.

Doh! I was at Abingdon doing a track day the other Friday, would have been ideal !
Becs are brilliant track tools, but Im not a huge fan of mine on the road, possible coz Ive enjoyed it full tilt on the track.

Im prob not going to another trackday till May 6 now,and would happily offer a passenger seat at any track day to bec newbies. but your more than welcome to ask as many q's as you like,PM me
Cheers
Mark

Yep, don't regret it so far but I haven't finished building yet.
I've got a bike too so I'm hopefully already prepared for the screaming nature.

how far are you off completion mate? what engine/car have you gone for? I was thinking of going for a megablade and buying a hayabusa engine for future transplant if i get bored of the power of the blade! im hopefully going to get a ride in a couple of becs soon to make up my mind. The main reason for doing it is cost of replacement parts and ease of repair compared to the cerb, plus the cerb atm gets no more use than a bec in my garage would!

If you want to try a BEC try RAW just outside Hereford. Mel's very patient, and they run their demonstrator on tracks!!! Also, the Striker (formerly Sylva Striker) is an extremely neat design, way ahead of the Tiger I tried. As an engineering graduate I bought a Raw (from the classifieds on this site!) yesterday (and 300 miles ago ) on the basis of it's neat layout and pioneering design. Mail him on mel@rawengineering.co.uk

Does he reply to emails then? Having seen him trying to drive his PC while he was making me a CD with the build manual on it I've always used the phone... They are all top people there and quite happy to chat and give advice over the phone or in person, they're quite attached to their Toyota 4AGEs though (and not without good reason).

All the ex-Sylva cars are light and well designed, so the Fury and Phoenix make great BECs too.

Same reason I sold the cerb. I'd had a good few years with the cerb and nothing major going wrong but it was always at the back of my mind.

I'm only really a couple of weeks into my build butgot most of the chassis parts on and a fair but of bodywork, brakes, etc. Hoping to get the engine in next time I'm home and get it finished and SVA'd by beginning of May. A long shot maybe but I have almost five weeks off work between now and then so as long as everything turns up on time I think I can manage it.

I'm going for an 2003 R1 engine which should hopefully give me similar power to weight as the cerb. Target weight is about 450kg's, maybe a little less if I can. I looked at the Busa engine but the additional cost plus needing to dry sump it put me off. The R1 only needs a sump baffle and either an extra clutch spring or an upgrade (doesn't really need the clutch spring but I've upgraded for a stiffer feel after years of cerbie clutch).

The car is a MAC#1 Motorsports Type9RWorx. Same as an MK Indy more or less. If I get finished for Pistonfest I should be able to take you for a spin if you are there and my missus lets me out!!!

Not quite offshore if I can avoid it but yep, oilfield trash working in Saudi just now. 35/35 so not too bad a schedule.

When I get back at it I'll try and get some pics of the build up and post it somewhere.
