Hi
I'm getting what I can only describe as a clunky clicky noise when I turn my steering wheel, mainly when manoeuvering at low speed or parking.

It's as if something metallic is catching somewhere as I turn the wheel. It is quite loud and slightly worrying as I've got visions of the steering failing at some point. Anyone any ideas?

Most often this is one or both of the steering column UJ's. They are very exposed being in the wheel arch and they are known to fail. The upper one is normally the first to go but if you're changing one you may as well change both.

Sometimes caused by leaking seals around the UJs, but for the work involved it's probably worth getting the lot done at once.

The noise seems to be coming from the shroud area - I guess it might be travelling up the column. - Thanks for the input guys, another thing on my list of things to do.
