Compressing 16:9 Video's for the net - AHHHHHHHHHHH
Discussion
360x240 (or possibly 360x288 if PAL). Make sure that you elect to use "non square pixels" in whichever rendering program you are using and select the 16x9 option. Also - I would try to keep the total CBR right around 300 to 500 (at the most).

Not sure if you're having fun with video size or compression, but when I publish 16x9 footage to the web I don't bother trying to tell the player about non-square pixels and resize the video to be the correct size. The worlds most excellent tool for telling you what dimensions you require is >Video Size Calc<. Tell it the native resolution of the source video (720x576) and it's aspect ratio (Anamorphic PAL), then tell it the target aspect ratio (Monitor square pixels) and the desired width/height along with the number that you want the width height to be multiples of (handy when your encoder can only work in resolutions that are multiples of, say, 16). It then tells you how much you need to crop your input by and then the resolution you need to resize the cropped input to in order to acheive a perfect widescreen image.
