Sold the Chimaera today for £12,500.

It broke my heart to see it drive away -- and hear it rumble round the town on the way to its new home.

Somehow the Focus ST170 doesn't deliver quite the same thing...

Bummer. At least you've still got a car with a bit of spark to it.

That's the only consolation...it does go once you've nailed your foot to the Wilton.

Just doesn't sound right though!

So you'll be checking out an stainless steel sports exhaust then - makes a big difference.

D'you think they can make it sound like it's got a V8 under the bonnet?

I wouldn't go that far! But it does provide a satisfying resonant tone as you work up and down the gears and also provides a handful of extra bhp

Excellent news Manek - now try not to let the Focus steer it's way to Hawthorns for a closer drool at that T350 ... yummy.

Someone out there got an excellent Chimaera there, anyone on PH?

Fair point! Didn't look that closely at the tufts underfoot...

Not sure if the buyer's a regular on here -- if he pops by, I'm sure he'll make himself known.

I'm so sorry Manek, it was me who took your baby from you.

I felt so guilty driving the car away, I could tell how much you loved that car. I almost shed a tear driving it away from you, but after 30 seconds of driving the car that feeling soon passed and was replaced be a huge grin!! Also seeing my bank balence back down to zero made me feel slightly less guilty!!

If it's any consolation, the car has gone to a good home and I'll try to cherish it like you did.

I still can't stop smiling, I have to keep looking out the window to make sure I haven't dreamt it! I'm on a night shift as I type this, and I've spent half of my shift in the basement car park drooling over the car!

Hope to keep in contact Manek, I'll be on this forum alot more as of now.

Great! It makes me happier knowing it's gone to a good home and will get plenty of enthusiastic thrashing. Don't feel guilty though - I put it up for sale with a heavy heart but there are always other cars... or should that be TVRs?

Cheers Matt -- you know how it is: once the decision's been made to sell it's painful owning the car but not being able to enjoy it fully. At least that's sorted.

And as I said, I like to think the beast is being enjoyed!

The weird thng about the Focus is that it does deliver - -I can still make most of the overtaking moves I would in the TVR, the chassis is talkative, and the roadholding much better than I initially expected especially in the wet -- but the experience is somewhat antiseptic. Must be the absence of thunderous V8 soundtrack!

Funnily enough I'm also toying with the idea of a Caterham as a fun/track day car. Should be cheap and easy to service -- maybe I could even do it myself -- and the idea of a lightweight car appeals to me. Come the summer...

Yes! In real world terms, my Cupra R is actually quicker than my old wedge with the torque much lower down the rev range! Great for overtaking etc. Took it down the A272 on Sat for a quick one and like you say, antiseptic. Not quite the same as taking the Tiv or 7 out for a blast but still fun nonetheless!

If you are considering a Caterham, then just do it! Such a fun car - Get one with a competition exhaust and it's not a V8 but still sounds awesome! They ARE very cheap to service and maintain and in my experience, extremely reliable! A top, top car! As much as I love TVR's I'm definitely going for another 7.

The ST170 has a wide torque band but you can feel it start to kick in around 2500-3000 rpm. The good thing is that it stays there till around 6000 rpm with the limiter not kicking in till 7300, all of which means that I can drop it into third or even second and floor it, knowing I don't have to think about a gear change until I'm safely past.

All of that's hooked up to a 6-speed close-ratio box which is good for full power acceleration but means the thing has too many gears when trickling round towns or behind queues of numpties.

Sorry, I'll shut up now -- starting to sound like an advert...

I know I've only had it 3 days, but I think TVRs are the only way forward, looks like I'm in for a life of hefty service bills, jealous stares, and ear to ear grinning!! Cause theres no way I'm going back to anything else!!
