Road Angel Navigator

Hi All, hopefully someone can help me.

Im after a camera detector and sat nav. My priority is camera detection, but I have been looking at the navigator, which provides both.

Initially I was thinking of getting the Origin B2, and then later a tomtom. however, the navigator seems to provide both sat nav and camera detection.

does the navigator have all the same features as the road angel? I have had people saying that it does not work as well as an origin or a normal road angel. is this true. Does anyone recommend this unit? thanks.

Road Angel Nav got some bad press in the early days and particulary from one user on here
!
It's a bloody good product - and the support has improved dramatically this year.

And if you got a old Road Angel you can get a great upgrade deal

All I can say is try the snooper indago and you realise just what a BAD product the navigator is. Even with the latest'updates' its still very poor.

I submitted the review originally but I can assure you I am not alone!

I would like one of the two, but the Indago is £100 more, as I can get the navigator for £399. Unless anyone knows where I can get one cheaper than the £499 rrp?

With the snooper you get a very easy to use keyboard that does not make mistakes and you can use easily with a finger. Road angel users commeent please???

With the snooper you dont need to have the unit dangling off the windscreen with a clear view to get sat lock, you can put it anywhere in the car. Road Angel users comment please?

With the snooper you get navtech mapping that really works and is the best available RA??? i dont think so!

Also you have automute on the snooper so no annoying warnings all the time your near a camera.

For £100 more the snooper is a bargain. In fact I would go so far as to say if you cant spend the extra £100 dont bother at all!

You'll get a money back guarantee anyway - so try the Navigator - if you can get a Road Angel Classic you can even upgrade that for less

I'm afraid that everything octane wrote about the RA Navigator is borne out by my experience. I bought a unit last September, and its third replacement is just about to be returned to Black Spot (can't say we haven't tried). I have also had replacement SD cards (twice). If you're on a motorway when it seizes up, it's bl***y annoying to have to try to find somewhere to pull off and perform a cold boot. And I can't say that I find it entertaining when it presents me with a screen of duff data.
The car is a bog-standard Vectra, so nothing special there. Mileage is very high, and due to many customer calls the unit is removed and replaced several times a day. But again, nothing unusual I'd have thought, given that this must be pretty much the sort of use for which it was designed.
What is a tad offputting is that I have been assured by Black Spot that mine is an isolated instance, and I am just (very) unlucky ... well, I suppose they would say that, wouldn't they!
Just like the little girl with the curl - when it's good, then it's very, very good ... when it's bad, it's horrid!
It's a bit worrying, when contemplating a change of unit, to see that other makes also suffer some of these operating faults. As a computer user I've had to get used to being a beta tester for Microsoft down the years, but given the high cost of these units, I'd have expected a much greater degree of reliability than I've been getting.
