Were the early Chimaera's delivered with 1 key fits all or was there one key for the ignition and one for the doors?

Mine is a very early 93. One key fits all. Strange question. Why?

Early 94 - one key. If the ignition is different I would guess it's had a new ign/steering lock. Or of course, had new door locks!

Yes, I know it's a strange question!! I'm having a bit of a wrangle with the dealer who's selling me a car the fact I want one key on the bunch (there are currently two). He's trying to convince me they had two which I know is suspect (especially as my 1991 S3c only had one) but I wanted to make sure I hadn't missed anything before I push the issue futher....the rest of the car is sound...it's just this issue I wanted straightened out.

Sounds if the ignition key or the door locks has been changed...

Whilst I would say the dealer is wrong to say something which is clearly wrong does it really matter?

If you had an immaculate car and the steering lock failed you would replace the lock, have two keys and still have an immaculate car. I don't know if TVR like other manufacturers can supply "lock sets" because generally this would be the only way round it, no doubt this would cost a good few quid to supply and fit. To make a lock fit a key(the only other way) is not easy on a laser cut key.

Agreed. The problem is the dealer, not the car. Score the dealer as follows:

"Yes sir, the ignition was changed as a result of xyz. Here is all of the history and the original invoice" - 5 points and a gold star

"Yes, sir, strange isn't it, it must mean that at some point the ignition was changed, possibly because of xyz, As far as we can tell there's nothing else wrong with the car." - 3 points for honesty

"Yes sir, they all do that. By the way, would you like to buy one of these televisions, or possibly a car stereo. I'm afraid that all the packaging has been lost". - 0 points. Walk away.

Thanks for your points. I have actually bought the car although I pushed the key issue further and the car will be going back in mid-month to sort a few other niggles out....see other postings. One possiblity discussed would be having the ignition and driver's locks on one key and the passengers on the other. Could this work? In any case the whole central locking set up needs addressing. I even had the situation yesterday where I was putting the car back in the garage, the engine was running but I couldn't get back into the car! Luckily the spare set of keys were in the house. Otherwise well chuffed with the car.
