REPAIRED TYRE ARE THEY DANGEROUS ON A HIGH PERFO

Hi Guys/Girls,
Does anyone know if a puncture can be safely be repaired on a high performance car?

Depends where the puncture is and how bad. I know that sounds obvious but I have had a puncture repared on a high performance tyre with no problems. It was a screw right in the middle of the tread pattern. I was told if it went into the shoulder of the tyre or wall then repair was not possible.

Also if you used tyre weld or similar product to get you home then a repair is not possible.

I do not even want to find out....I would put a new tyre on straight away rather than lose control,thinking "I should have changed that tyre!". A tyre or a pair is usually cheaper than a whole high performance car to replace.

Where does it say its illegal?I've had plugs put in bike tyres several times buy bike main agents.I know its not really a good idea but you takes your own risk and all that.Bisides,a pirelli corsa only lasts 900 miles.

I have heard that as well. It was a tyre firm who said they would only repair mine if I promised to use it as a spare as they shouldn't really do it. Screw in the centre. Mind you they turned out to be a bit dodgy and went bankrupt so duff info?

B*ll*cks mine was repaired by michellin themsleves it was a Z rated tyre and had been on the road all of a week when I got my puncture, after the repair was absolutely fine. Equally a tyre specialist I know very well actually has contracts to repair high performance tyres for people such as mercedes. (they call him out to repair as part of servicing contracts) Do you really believe a high profile company would take any risks with £50k+ cars?

As I said in my original reply they can be repaired depending on damage done. A simple puncture in the main part of the tread has no problems. Of course it should be done by a professional which is why Q**k-f** and the like will say that you need a new tyre.

Er at what point does a car become a performance car ?
and at what level of performance car driver does it warrant risking life ?

Tyres are repaired by reputable people, so long as the carcas of the tyre is not damaged where is the problem ? if you always drive your 575 flat out or your Mac F1 full chat , then I would guess the cost of a new tyre is not an issue anyway , for the rest of us mortals I sugest we use a tyre company we trust to judge the condition of a damaged tyre , and take a safe decission .

For the record my Diesel Pug has ZR rated tyres as OE fit I hope I never need a repair, but so long as the damage is not in the vital shoulder area , and I promise to keep under 160 mph . I won't worry too much

I had a nail in the center section of the rear tyre (335/30/18) on my Ultima. The tyre had done about 500 miles. I spoke to Ultima and Goodyear and and they agreed it was alright to repair the tyre. The nail was about 6 inches from the edge and the repair was fine until replacement. This cost me about £20 rather than £700 from a normal tyre dealer or £340 from the ultima factory
