Oh no! Clutch pedal issue

Got in her on Saturday ready to take her out for a fair weather spin all was good, she started on the button...but then I go to depress the clutch...and there was no resistance in the pedal whatsoever...so the clutch wasn't engaging.

It was almost as if the hydraulic pressure had just leaked out!

I am very worried, as I have just spend 2.7k on a service and the last time I took her out she was perfect...so how on earth has this happened, she has just been sitting in the garage under her cover nice and warm...why on why oh why!

Anyone got any idea as to what could have happened...

ahhh the service was including new rear box and tails...and various odds 'n sods...

I accepted it on the chin (a London dealer quoted me 7k for the service) so I counted myself lucky...

But to have this happen now is just a major kick in the teeth.

I have just spoken to one of the guys at TVR power and they suggest it could be the clutch slave-cylinder and the inner seal...

But I am baffled as to why this has happened...as I say I have only taken it out once since the service and everything was fine...

...I think my time with TVRs may be coming to an end...shame, but I want to be able to enjoy my car.

7K. ??? WHAT, strkes me they decided not to bother with your car at the service and just charge you for a new one.

Whilst it's unfortunate that it's happened at this time, it could have happened anytime .. check back on old clutch threads for possible causes and costs ..

Thanks Jules, just looked at past threads and it does seem it is going to be the clutch master/slave cylinder...

Oooh joy...another £500 then.

Condolences Mate, that is certainly what it sounds like. You have had more than your share of bad luck this year.

Would be a shame to get rid, the car will probably be fine for ages now...although i fear i would probably make the same decision having already shelled out as much as you have this year.

Get your car to Andy at APM. Makes the financial pain much easier to bare.
He is also the cerb expert.

Yep, but getting yourself to me might be fun. It you can then we might get E3D to show us how fast he can remove a Cerb gearbox.

8 Hours! Total job time, one guy said he could do it in 5 i think, but I am slow!

Before getting carried away, check your fluid and top up/bleed if necessary.
Mine did this a few months ago, I topped the fluid and bled it through and its been fine since.

Excellent advice - I have heard a good bleed is often a cure (much like those old skool sooth sayers and their leaches).

But how do I bleed the clutch fluid?

I checked it - first check I did...and it is all up to levels.

Excellent - I'll tweak the nipple this weekend and pray to the god of reliability that I shall have a working clutch...

Otherwise it's a call to the AA to see if I can convince them to low load me to a garage for free...:-s

Had the clutch slave cylinder go on my car a few years ago and the APM invoice was for ~270 all in, inc vat. The seal kit is cheap. Take heart..
