After reading some interesting posts on here regarding rad/expansion caps finally got the correct parts on my series 1 350. For the first time in years the system is pressurised. Sadly as I result a leak has developed behind the water pump around a gasket to the main block. Does'nt seem to be anyway on tightening this up, I assume that the long bolts through the water-pump go striaght into the block. Can anyone suggest any gasket/leak seal that will sort this??

you could always take the pump off - put on a new gasket and then also add silicon seal to the gasket..
Agree- if it's the original pump, probably worth replacing anyway. Whichever way you go, you need to be very careful removing and replacing the bolts, especially those long ones as they go through the timing cover as well. You need to use thread sealant on them and the gasket and pump faces - I used Hylomar for both.

I've always been advised not to use these additives as they can clog up waterways and cause overheating problems.
I agree with dicky, but I have used the stuff on cars in the past, its less hassle and Barrs does work. Risk of blocking the heater matrix though - I ended up with a very cold Carlton one winter
