How does this work?

I'm not contesting what I was stopped for but I was stopped by Avon and Somerset 4 miles inside the Devon border on the M5. There was no opportunity to pull off the motorway before crossing the county border, so is there an agreement between forces? Or was I effectively subject to a citizens arrest?

I'm afraid its not like The Duke's of Hazard unless of course you are BTP! Making a dash for the county line won't save you unfortunately.

The powers of constable are valid throughout England and Wales.

Does that mean sanctuary if we make a dash into Scotland to get away from the Cumbria partnership?

Thanks chaps, I never thought it was a dash for the county line I just wondered how it worked. So technically a D+C Constable can arrest in Bristol?

There will not be any changes required then when the County Police forces are disbanded and the Regional or National Police force is imposed on us. {for regional read region of the UK or of the European Community because both are on their way}.

Yes. If he can identify himself as a Constable (carrying his Warrant) he has full Police powers; if not he makes a citizen's arrest.

If a constable on duty witnesses an offence in his own County and the suspect proceeds across a Force boundary permission to pursue is sought from a senior officer and the other force's CAD room is notified.

There is an issue about giving FPNs though. However a stop and report on summons is no problem. I take it the offence was committed in the PCs own force area?

So in my case they would have gone to all that bother in order to stop me because I have a 3/4 sized front number plate?

Seems a lot of hassle for a £30 fine.

As I said, no complaint. I am guilty of the offence, but to cross the border and then stop me for that? On the other hand, they had no option because they had passed the last exit in Somerset and the next one was in Devon. I assume the two forces here have a permanent agreement otherwise there would 7 miles of M5 not policed.
