Sunday afternoon, just about to go off for the second run of the day. Turn ign on, pump kicks in, click - nothing. Wouldn't srart for the first time in my ownership doh! Checked here and there and found what I though might be a clue (a very hot ceramic tube, behind the central dash - but more of this with separate posting to follow)

Had to call out Mikeb's friend - the AA man. After I tried to lead him up the garden path with my theories about the immobiliser maybe going awol and also showing him my 'very hot ceramic tube', he went quiet for a while and then proceeded to carry out his checks.
He located the problem straight away - a poor connection on the starter solenoid (the wire from the ignition). Its a spade connection and just needed cleaning and squeezing bit tighter. AA man managed to do this working from above and access is ****** tight to say the least -Top man

Mind you, I did not get as friendly with the AA man as what MikeyB did that time
