Just wondering how much it costs to buy a factory built GTR with the 377c.i 685bhp engine compared to the all in price of building one yourself?Thanks for any help.

Well without stating the obvious, ring up the factory and ask what they will charge you for building the car to the spec you require, then look on their website for the cost of the parts only as listed on the price list then bingo!

Or as Gman says, if you are not handy with the spaners, or can't face 12 months in a drafty garage, do what I did, buy one ready built

Haha, you should put a barf-bag in that thang, mounted prominently in front of the passenger-seat to warn people what they're in for. ;-) My driving made someone nauseous in a much-lesser car than an Ultima, just driving on twisty back-roads so she gave me that suggestion afterward. :-) I used to call that car "my personal, portable amusement ride". ...but no entrance fees and no waiting on line like at a normal amusement park. :-)

If you don't mind, how much do you stand to lose on your GTR?

I want to build one, but have this horrible vision of losing £20k+ after a year of low mileage. I alreday stand to lose £15k on my M400 which I've had for just over a year, and the wife would kill me if she found out how much we've spent on cars over the last 3 years. The Westfield which I built, and used for a total of 3 track days is up far sale at £7k less than the parts cost!

Adrian, don't by a car for an investment! And try keeping it a little longer, it makes it less painful in the long run.

I know that any car is going to lose money. I also get bored easily, but try to keep things for 3 years. It's just a case of how much money I'm prepared to lose. The Noble has cost me about £1k a month in depreciation, and the loss of interest on £60k (I paid for the car). And to be honest for the amount of times I've used it (trying to keep low mileage) it would be cheaper to hire something exotic. I just can't get away from having a "fun" car in the garage just in case it's a nice day. The trip to LeMans and back last year made it all worth while though.

I really want to build an Ultima, as I enjoyed building the Westfield far more than I did driving it. i just don't want to lose a fortune for the pleasure of building it myself. I know that i would be far better off buyinga Classic that doesn't depreciate, and maintaining it, but somehow this doesn't appeal anywhere near as much as building a 700BHP/tonne supercar.
