Ok, the time has come for a new exhaust on the 3200GT, my question is: are the aftermarket exhaust choices limited to the Tubi + Larini?

The fact is that I don't want anything too noisy and obtrusive - the GT gets regular usage, it's not just a weekend car - however, it would seem like an opportunity missed to just replace it with another Maserati offering.

I don't want to go custom as I fear some spotty trainee getting their paws on my motor, revving the nuts off it from cold, etc. So it has to be off-the-shelf.

Different but not too noisy is the order of the day.

All comments welcome.

cheers

Pat

Careful of the Price fluctuation of the Larini.

Tubi sounds better IMO.
Quality of the Larini is excellent though but the sound is nothing like the Tubi.

I had Larini and found a price difference of around £170 depending on who you speak with on this forum. Dont these people think that the maserati club is a small one and people talk !

Heard DavidA's Tubi at the Maserati Party couple of months ago and it set off all the car alarms !
Excellent !

If you want close up images of the larini on my Maser 3200 email me :
Cheers.

Thanks for the reply m3200gt,

I think Larini have taken on board the problems with the variable price and have now fixed it (or so it seems, think it works out at about 935GBP after VAT).

I know the Tubi is the real head-turner, but unfortunately that's not quite the impression I need to make when turning up to business meetings. Need something a bit more refined, but throaty when you give it revs.

Very boring I know ... I wish I could fit detachable exhausts, sober one for the week and an angry one for the weekend!

The Larini is the solution then.
The sound comes more 'alive' at midrange and not at low revs.
Ideal if you live close to your neighbours and do not want to upset them.

But when flat out the exhuast sounds great.

Five! I thought you had six at Egham Mate !
when you drove off !
The look of the security cracked me up ! They thought I hit one of the cars !
The Tubi is the superior sound though.
Larini is quiet on the low revs (ideal for early mornings) but is not in the same league overall and manu at www.scuderiasystems.co.uk is a top bloke.
Its all down to personal choice pat.
Email me pat if you want an audio clip of the larini?
Cheers.

Latest prices for 3200 Larini exhaust (excluding fitting etc):

'Sports Rear Boxes' System - £596.00 + vat + Deliveries within the UK: £13.50

'Club Sport Rear Boxes' System - £796.00 + vat + Deliveries within the UK: £13.50

I do not know what the difference is between the two.

I have to admit prices are very attractive whereas the Tubi is £1395 + vat (this inclucdes fitting).

Been thinking about changing my exhausts for nearly 8 months now! But just cant get myself to do it yet

Hi Guy's, I have to say i find Larini's the better deal because they are not a constant droan at motorways speeds. We fit them for exactly the same price as replacement originals and they are fitted for £925 inc vat. We can do them whilst you wait and the price also includes two new exhaust rings and new nuts and bolts.

The price is for the club sport type, which are louder and have larger tail pipes than the sport back box. I have spoken to Larini who tell me that the sport box looks similar to originals but are only very slightly louder than originals. The club boxes have much larger tailpipes which protude the bumper and are much louder. I don't think they are as loud as Tubi's though. The sport boxes have only just been released and a fitted price is, which includes new rings, nuts and bolts and VAT is £700. Ring if you want any more information - 01732 363030

I'm thinking of biting the bullet and having a Tubi fitted next service (next week!) I am a bit concerned about the drone / noise on a long motorway trip. I've done this before on a previous car and regretted it.

If anyone has had Tubi's fitted could you let me know your thoughts, does the extra thrill of exhaust note outway the occasional longer trip drone, or is it not that bad once the stereo is on?

Can a conversation still be held without shouting at steady 80-90 on the motorway?

What is the going price?

Getting the clutch done at the same time - ouch!!!

Hey you did the right thing.

I am pleased with my Tubi exhausts. I have recorded the sound and posted it on my website, link on home page to right side. Today I am flying abroad for two weeks and wish I could take my 3200 with me to show it off as the Tubi brings it to the next level!

By the way it's not too loud because you can still talk at 80 - 150 mph..... don't take your eys off the road!

I've had a set of Quicksilver fitted for the last year or so. The Quicksilver's are louder than the stock Maserati and are execellent in quality build. Tick-over is great, bumbling in heavy traffic is intrusive, however fantastic again when putting some power down.

I've not heard a 3200GT with Larini or Tubi, so can't comment on the difference to these.

Quicksilver appear to have expanded their range recently and are advertising more heavily to support this, possibly explaining their pricing, much higher than when I bought.

I have put Tubi back boxes on my 4200 which is my daily driver. I can confirm they do sound amasing from the outside and from the inside when you are in the mood. However, I am thinking of changing them though for the very concerns you mention. Firstly they are LOUD and a 6am start every morning is not making me popular with the whole of our village and my better half who gets woken up by them! Secondly they are ever present inside, not overly obtrusive at normal motorway speeds more so in give and take driving where they are very boomy at lower revs - obtrusively so and if not's just a toy driving around this problem all the time is not realistic. Third I am a little paranoid that plod can here me coming... However they do sound awesome when you are in the mood - 3rd gear in a long tunnel is nice...(A50 stoke is fun). I have seen postings on Maserati Life about just changing the centre sections which increases noise by c25% but does not make the car noisy inside etc. Anyone any experience of this and any ideas where you can get it done? Also it would be interesting to see if the Larini's over come my concerns above? I couldn't go back to standard it sounded like a tumble drier...

I have recently installed the Larini club sport boxes(cheaper larini option) to a 3200GT, they are not obtrusive in sound at all and are now nearly half the price of Tubi's! Larini has a top quality build and aligns nicely in the bumper. I prefer Larini's because they don't drown at motorways speeds. Your choice though

Are the quicksilvers reasonably quiet inside?
