Hi Guys, I know some of you have had Thatcham alarms fitted. I am considering it. From the insurance quotes I've had it will pay for itself in 2 years!

What alarms have you had fitted?

Do you need an additional fob?

If you paid (instead of Vauxhall, )approx how much?

I would like to have one fitted that does not require an additional fob in other words it will be armed by my existing remote key.

Any advice gratefully received

I'm getting mine fitted Tues 14th.

I'm getting an upgrade so I can use my own keyfob.

It's costing me £300 - either that or the insurance company won't cover me for theft..... and with the 4 ASBO holding tw4ts that were eyeing up EHO today, I think I'll pay the £300!!

Just had an overlay fitted myself COBRA something or other (Thatcham cat 1). It pays for itself in the first year against reduced insurance around £240. Best still can use my own key.....

Just picked mine up - £300 fitted. Toad Cat2 to Cat1 upgrade. Any decent alarm shop should be able to fit.

I also, just use the original key fob.

The alarm system should cover the boot - you'll need to disarm/unlock the car before opening the boot.

yep thats how it works. must remember to unlock before opening the boot with the remote release. You dont need to do that with the factory alarm

That's because the factory alarm was pants!

If you can get into the boot without the alarm going off, so can ASBO scum bags......

I'm sure we'll quickly learn to disarm first, after we've woken the whole street up a few times!

At least if anyone breaks into the boot of an 05 model, its not big enough for them to steal much....
