RE: GreenV8S's TVR V8S 4.6 GTi 16v RS
Discussion
Just having a Browse through the Fleet and I 'stumbled' across the Rarest V8S in the World.
The 4.6 GTi 16v RS model
This is what shocked me the most.
Purchase Price £18,000
70 months of ownership.
Value now £8,000
Whats wrong with that I hear you say
Costs excluding depreciation
£45,000
£22,000 Maintenance
I had a coronary on the spot.
Money Well spent I hope
Anybody else got figures like that?

It's not quite a standard car anymore....
Go to www.t-v-r-services.co.uk and look at engine upgrades and you will see what I mean.
Ps It used to be my car before Pete bought it.

What can I say
Words fail me. As Steve says, its not entirely standard any more! One of the main costs comes from the mileage - at about 120k miles at £1 per mile fuel+servicing, you can do the sums yourself! Also, its had a new engine & associated bits (roughly the same output as a standard 500, which gives it similar power/weight to a 4.2 Cerbera), about to have its third uprated 'box fitted, already on its fourth diff (now custom made), fourth set of half shafts (also now custom made), reinforced trailing arms, as well as the obvious stuff like rollover/seat/harness/firex, massive brakes, expensive dampers and so on. It's surprising how quickly the costs mount up when you start with a high performance car, modify it extensively, drive it extremely hard on track days and sprints and also do a very high road mileage in it. But it's also a hell of a lot of fun, and what better way is there to spend the money?
Cheers,
Peter Humphries (and a green V8S)

I am lead to believe that for that amount of money some extensive "personal services" could be procurred....![]()

Paul
But would it last as long

edited to add....quick how do you delete your own post, before I lose anymore cred (that'll be a minus figure then
) Stuart,
I've been in it and it is worth every penny he spent on it for the fun I had in it

I fully intend to get in it again at the next opportunity so keep spending Peter ... its all worth it for me
Serioulsy though, this is a prime example of what cost you *can* incur when using your everyday transport for competition. When you start to upgrade a performance car its amazing how much more really needs to be done. Many people are not as thorough or certainly as educted in these matters as Peter.
Great respect to Peter for actually being public in terms of the cost to himself. It certainly was one thing that stops me from going upgrade crazy and entering Sprints left, right and centre.
I do intend to Sprint in the near future. But desperately need to leave my car as standard, otherwise it'll be the slippery road for me as well ...

My first couple of seasons were in the standard class and basically cost me the race suit and crash hat and the entrance fees. Cheapest motor sport I have ever had. Most TVRs compete in that class BTW.
Pete's problems come from chasing too many White Astra Vans. we've told him before that nothing can catch them....

Never ask why. It is just the way people are. If everyone took the "sensible" approach, the world would be a very boring place!

I could argue looks, sound, handling, reliability and cost.
But to be honest, it doesn't make financial sense at all. And the next round of mods will probably make even less sense - when I've decided what they are! Peter Humphies (and a green V8S)

I think I run Pete a pretty close thing! See www.pistonheads.com/members/showCar.asp?carId=23. He at least has the excuse that he uses his day-to-day which I don't.
Thought about the Tuscan/Cerbera cost thing and like Pete, I like my car and wouldn't swap it. After all, mine is rare and 'owes me'! The amount of abuse my car gets on track means that anything else may still have cost me the same over 6 years but would have cost me more to buy in the first place.
