Windsreen wiper failure in this rain.....

.....luckily its only the near side wiper thats failed :-)

Can I assume the possibilties are blown fuse, blown wiper motor, electrical fault??????/

Nightmare! If one's working, it sounds mechanical, as I'm sure both wiper arms are linked, so I would have thought part of that mechanism has become loose, or a part has fell off, or something like that. (this happened on my Chim, I know how dangerous it can get when driving in rain/drizzle!). Check the linkages.

Open the bonnet and have a look.

I'd bet it's just the screw which holds the wiper arm in place which has become loose, so the spindle is turning without the wiper arm...

Thats a good point. It was lashing down this morning so I just made a dash into work without checking that option. Will let you know how I get on thanks.

Happened to me recently too, all of sudden near side wiper stopped and driver's wiper went over it!
Pulled over and use the supplied toolkit for the first time after four years' driving!
Quite easy to tighten the relevant nut.....

Thats it mate - NO PROBS here now. Tightened the linkage and job done. 1st time I used the tool kit in 3 weeks of ownership.

At least you have a toolkit!! Us newer owners dont. I would love to know whats in so I can just build my own!

You could start with some sealing wax and a ball of string - oh and some gaffer tape!

Carry those already and fuses and bulbs and oil and tyre foam and pump, but the question is what else do we need!

but do you need a pump? the can inflates your tyre doesnt it.

theres quite a lot in the tvr tool box tho.

No you don't need a pump - just remove the foreign object and roll the vehicle so the puncture is facing the tarmac then use the can.

As regards tool kit - I'd forsake it for the three year warranty you get with a new car

Tollbox has got some good stuff in it. Tyre pressure gauge, spanner, allen keys that sort of stuff. And some natty gloves!. Also a handy place to keep zipties.

Hi Alt, I have exactly the same problem yesterday, the driver's wiper went over the passengers. I can feel the wiper blade is loose, therefore think it just need tightening. I don't have the toolkit, I'd apreciate it if you could post with the tool required for the job. Many thanks. jammyjarv.

I think it was one of the Allen keys but I'd have to check.
I need to adjust the driver's wiper anyway as it sits too high and travels off the side of the screen especially at motorway speeds.
If I can get a picture of the "fabulous" tool-box I'll post it!

Just had a look, and there are a couple of things that look like they could go loose. Either the Allen bolt on the linkage - or what looks more likely - the big nut on the bottom of the arm. It looks about 3/4" so will need a bigger spanner than the adjustable one in the tool kit.

Beware of the easy puncture fix cans !

I used it to inflate a punctured tyre only to discover that the tyre (with more than 50% tread left) could not be fixed at the garage and had to be changed because of the foamy stuff from the can !!

It doesn't say anything about that in the user instructions on the can !

So maybe it is worth carrying a pump if it is a slow puncture...
