Having removed the rear axle & petrol tanks etc to repair the chassis i have been cleaning & painting everything prior to re-fitting. The swirl pot is quite heavily corroded and there is something rattling around inside. Should there be anything rattling inside? What is the purpose of the pot? What is inside one? Has anyone made a new one?
Cheers,

Mick

Mick,
Don't know about a replacement, because mine looked like new when it came off. Perhaps it was replaced by the previous owner.

But the rattling noise was the same.
After a lot of shaking a big piece of solder came out.
I have read about loose pieces inside the swirlpot several times on this forum. Seems like a TVR standard!

On replacement, perhaps somebody else can be of help (or have a search on the forum).
Also heard about people making a replacement themselves.

It should not contain anything (I think). Just to provide a streamlining possibility for the fuel (coming from the two different tanks) before reaching the fuel pump.

Regards,

Rob

Having just replaced my swirl pot i too can confirm the large pieces of solder rattling around in there! I had a new one made from Aluminium, the original one also has a small gause filter inside which could not be fited in the new one so i went for a pre-pump filter instead, much better filtration and a cleanable element too.

The original pot was heavliy corroded on the outside and after cutting it in half to check out the internals a rust spot was developing on the inside too so I caught it in time!

Demon Tweeks sell a range of swirl pots that are suitable for this. You will need one as it helps prevent fuel starvation on bends. The first cars didn't have them and this was a real problem. Ideally it should hold aabout 1 litre of fuel and acts as a reservoir to maintain the feed. A lack of fuel pressure caused by no fuel can cause pre-detonation and break the engin. Worth getting right.

Thanks Steve,
I thought it was because of fuel starvation but wasn't really sure.

Cheers,
Mick
