Steve.
Why bother keeping the box cut it out and weld two pipes in place .

The box is needed to mount the exhaust. It'd be a lot more work if you delete the box completely.

Sorry don't know the size of pipes needed. I'd assume they will be the same as the rest of the system. Just cut out the old perforated pipes and weld in the solid ones, then pack the box full of wadding.

Rubbish! Nice wording mate!

I was giving my opinion, as were you.

I think the guy is attempting to carry out the work himself, therefore i'd say it was far easier to sleeve the pipes instead of attempting to weld in a a new section and cope with the possible alignment problems.

If the exhaust was not mounted in the middle of the car the entire weight of the flexible section back will be taken by the single small hanger at the rear.

But like I said, I was just giving my opinion.

Sorry for wording Dave I agree you have your opinion ,But I still think its best to remove the box and weld in 2 stubby pipes .

Morning guys.... I will be doing the work myself, however i have the assistance of a very good welder i work with so he will be doing the main part of it... all i will do is remove and re-fit the exhaust.... Whilst keeping the main box sleeved and in place would be easier, perhaps removing it and fabricating new brackets may be a better solution... I will see what he thinks upon looking this weekend.. Thanks for the advise
