I have a 98S 4.0 Chimaera with the standard alarm system fitted. Apart from the keyfob only having an operational distance of a couple of microns, all has been well..... until last week.

I first noticed a problem when I stopped to get petrol. After paying I pressed the keyfob to unlock, jumped in tried to start it and nothing. No noise from the fuel pump. I then tried to un- immobilise the car by pressing the keyfob with the key in the ignition but still, no result. I ended up sitting there for around 20 mins with the car locked before it thankfully decided to start for me.
So I set off home thinking that this must be one of those TVR things that we all have from time to time and hoping that it would just be a be a one off. By this time I was doing around 70 on a busy dual carrige way with a car fairly close behind when my car suddenly decides to immobilise itself. The engine just died completely. With no room to pull over and the woman behind busy using the rear view make up mirror, I felt sure that the much polished arse end of my tiv was soon to be spread across the fast lane.
Still in 4th gear, and in a serious panic, I decided to put the car in neutral which helped me keep my speed up at least. I then pressed the keyfob and thank god, the fuel pump kicked in and I was able to start the car and pull away.

I feel sure that if my car had not started again I would have been hit by the Avon rep behind me as she had not looked out of the front of her car for the duration of my troubles. I think she may have dropped her lipstick when my car finaly started and exploded half a gallon of unburnt Optimax in her face!!!! Rather large bang to say the least

So, anyone got any ideas? or shall I just use this as an excuse to get one of those Clifford systems with remote engine start?????

Cheers,

Matt.
