Hi, will be a new 1994 TVR Chimaera 400HC owner tomorrow and I need some advice.

The electric door mirror does not work, can I just get the motor changed? or do I have to buy a new complete mirror?

Any advice is welcomed, including stockists of the mirror or motor.

Thanks

Big Al.

and Welcome.

The motor IIRC is replacable, suggest you contact your local TVR garage for a spare.

You might find though it just has a dicky connection.

Mine have never worked since I purchased last year. TBH as the mirrors are set up correctly for me I've never bothered looking at why. Could just be a loose connection, dodgy switch etc.
Guess I should get it looked at though!

Thanks for your replies, the advice is much apreciated!

Going to pick it up in an hour or so... cant wait!

Just out of interest.. are the mirrors citroen xm? as there seems a bit of speculation over this in the forums? I dont need one but just curious! My husband is enquiring about the motor for it now.

Unfortunately because my husband will obviously be wanting to use it aswell we will need to change the position of the mirror.

Thanks again! Lena

Good luck with your new TVR, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Oh and yes they are Citroen and check the connections first... Rich...

Probably worth checking the connector inside the door, it may just need cleaning. You should be able to access it by removing the speaker alone. Unless of course you have already removed the mirror glass and checked that you're getting current at the mirror itself.

Hi, One of my mirrors didn't work properly. Discovered that it had been replaced at sometime and the wiring plug had been cut off and re-connected incorrectly. Looks like when they re-joined the cable they discovered that there are three black cables and guessed the combination incorrectly. The wiring is comprehensively covered in the "Bible" as I recall. Worth checking before buying a new motor as there are also swiches and a relay in the circuit.

The mirrors are quite straightforward to take apart; run a plastic knife along the bottom of the mirror.

I've put up two pictures here www.thefilehighclub.com/link/test/tvr_mirror which you may find useful.

Use /L/ instead of /M/ for the full-size image e.g. www.thefilehighclub.com/link/test/tvr_mirror/L/6be2613e576714e83b1110689f16f020797799e8

You can see the heated mirror glass to the bottom right of the picture, still connected to the power wires. It's very fragile glass.
