10.30am F1: Bahrain Grand Prix Qualifying Steve Rider presents live coverage of the qualifying session for tomorrow's race in Bahrain, the opening round of the season. As usual there has been some seat-hopping during the winter, with Felipe Massa joining Ferrari, Nico Rosberg teaming up with Williams and Rubens Barrichello lining up alongside Jenson Button at Honda, and all three will be looking to make a positive start to life at their new teams with a good grid position ahead of the race. Commentary by James Allen and Martin Brundle.

I think it looks a bit garish

each to their own though.

In terms of modern F1 cars I guess it is quite cool looking.

Kimi must be the unluckiest guy in the whole of F1!

ok Ive just read about the changes. very odd. hope it works out

"However, some drivers still appear to find the new system confusing.

Midland's Christijan Albers recently admitted: "I have looked at the qualifying schedule and still don't understand it."

Its been great so far-Kimi had a suspension failure which packed them all into the last 4.5 minutes-big bundle at the end and that was just the first session-top fun!

Why are those practise times so out of "order" are they all running very different fuel levels. How come test drivers are doing so well but barely ever race?

I think it's an improvement on previous years.

Stage one eliminates the sixth slowest
Stage two the next six leaving ten in the third stage to fight for pole position on race fuel levels.
Its also tactical-the sessions are strictly timed so even if you are on a hot one if you have left it too late you are out.
They are having to race this year-last year they sat on their buts drinking energy drinks untill the last ten minutes.

This is way better.

I must say it is a lot more exciting than the old way of doing things. Fantastic paint job on the McLarens, just a shame about the build quality...
