Is it ever going to happen?

We keep hearing the same tired line all the time, speed kills. So they lower the limits, and surprise - more road deaths than the year before.

Amazing stuff. So where it used to be legal to do 60, often we can only do 40 or 30 now. Funny, it was safe enough at 60, but we are now automatically criminals for still doing the "old" limit.

Right, when can we hope to see these limits reverted? who do I need to vote for?

Interestingly (or not), the UK Independence Party have a fairly good manifesto on transport.

Cheers
Matt.

The obvious answer is not to vote at all, so that they get a clear message from us.
If their policies, such as they are, dont appeal to us then why vote for them?
Ive made my mind up to never vote again unless nothing short of a miracle happens to change the stupid system we have now.
Its not working, so lets use our "none" votes to send them a clear meassage; "we -dont-want-you".
Until they all fcuk off, ill not give them the satisfaction of receiving a vote from me ever again, even in the locals.
Dosent matter what party or council we vote in, they all have their own covert agendas.
Screw em all.

But it's not though, is it? Not voting just says "I don't care if you get in, do your worst!"
Not voting is just playing into their hands.
It just makes it easier for the encumbent party to get back into power. They love it when people don't vote, cos it means the party faithful vote counts for more. How can not voting ever make things better?

Things that could make things change:

Voting for a different party
Actively participating in politics
Revolution/insurrection

When i go for a ride it often crosses my mind , how long will this stay a 40 or a NSL before some prat who sits behind a desk allday looks at some stupid figures on a piece of paper and decides we should go slower for the sake of the fluffy bunnies as he eats his veggie burger , i swear this counrty is try to self destruct its self by making it illegal to drive anywhre or do anything that s fun they seem to think we live within walking distance of where we work or work from home , soon there will be a tax on smileing its getting seriously close to thinking about moving on from this nanny state and president bLIAR its starting to depress me

Craig...

I agree with you. The only way not voting helps is if a certain percentage of voters are REQUIRED to vote in order to validate an election...

Take heart Carl, we have already been through this in the US. We went for years with a 55mph speed limit on interstate highways that are now (mostly) at 75. What it takes is an effort from the masses (called "grass roots" in the States, unsure of the UK term). Basically, the politicos where told that due to safety measures (air bags, abs, etc, etc) being improved on cars through legislation, then the speed limit has to go up.

It actually had some side benefits for industry as well. Cargo carrying lorries got through faster. It took a while but was worth it...

Although i see what youre sayin Craig, i just cant bring myself to vote for any of them.
Im just too dam pissed off to give a hoot about any of em.
Who should i vote for and why?
What am I gonna get outa this "favour"?
Theres nothing they are gonna do for me, in reality theyre just gonna look after themselves, whether they get my vote (or yours mate) or not.
I tend to have high morals and strong views on things, and im not about to prostitute myself just so they can have 5 years free reign.
Im kinda resigned to the idea that theyll do whatever they want, but, at the same time, they better get fcuking used to the fact that im gonna do likewise.
Lowered speed limits therefore mean very little to me, i wont obey them unless theres a sound reason to, and that dont include some John Q Law hiding behind a bush.

Very unlikely in todays PC society, much as I would like to see it, just can't see it happening.

Deltaf, good sentiments, but I fear that once you get to 11 points, you may have to reconsider.

And when you get over 6pts, your insurance becomes a nightmare too. B**tards.

I don't like it anymore than you, but even I can see that the "thin end" has been well and truly shoved in, and that they are hammering it home. uch:

What do we do? ABD is good, but if we all sit by and do what we're doing now, eg, NOTHING, then they will win, and we will all be doing 20mph.

common sense: what *good* motorists have, and numpties do not.

Numpty: crap driver, and Whitehall resident.

DOH ! I have found a new bike. May buy it soon. "Only" does 120, so ought to keep me a bit closer to the pathetically limits of today..

Happy new year all.
