Right, this has probably been done before, but with the possible petrol price rise yet again, I just want to make sure I'm singing off the same song sheet as everyone else.

Shell (or BP/ESSO) buy an oilfield with Shell Money, put an oil rig, bought with Shell money, on it and drill, helped by shell employees, for crude oil.
This oil is then pumped by a Shell pump down shell piped laid in the see by shell employees (or contractors) to a shell oil refinery, built by shell using shell money on land owned by shell. This oil is then pumped about for a while, watched by Shell employees, until it is refined into Petrol, Deisel, Bitumin etc. These are then held by shell in shell tanks on shell land.
A shell employee (or contrator) then drives a Tanker owned (or hired) by shell, using a shell pipe, the petrol (in this case) is pumped into aformentioned tanker and driven by said driver along public roads (bought and paid for by public money, using contractors, also paid for by public money) to a shell petrol station where it is unloaded into a Shell owned Underground tank which is in shell owned land, and above which is a shell owned petrol station.
Along I come in my car bought with my money. I have paid the Road Fund Licence for a 6 monthly period using my money, have had the car MOT'd using my money, and have the car insured, also using my money.
I drive into the Shell petrol station, pick up the shell owned petrol dispenser, remove my petrol cap from my car and insert the dispenser into the filler tube. Using the pump provided by shell, the dispenser fills my tank to the desired level with shell petrol, a level which I check using the Digital Display counter, which is also provided and owned by shell.
I then replace said dispenser in holder, remove my money from my trousers, walk into shop owned by shell, and hand my money over to the Shell Employee behind the counter, also owned by shell. She gives me any relevant change and a receipt, printed from a machine owned by shell. I then walk to my car, and drive away quite contented, on roads paid by public money.

DO WHERE DOES THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT FEATURE IN THAT EQUATION AND WHY ARE THEY TAKING 60 ODD PENCE PER LITRE IN FUCKING TAX?! IT'S NOT THEIR PETROL, IT'S NOT THEIR CAR.

I've never really thought about this before, just accepted it, but now that I do think about it..
They are charging us to Drive/Park on roads paid for using public (our) money, they charge us to tell us that our vehicle is safe, or otherwise, to drive on the road, and they charge us to put bloody petrol in it. petrol that isn't theirs and that they have no claim over!

Same song as everyone else?

try not to think about it.

let me ask this question... when you go into a nightclub and pay £20 to get in then find they're playing crap 80s "hits" all night do you...
a) complain
b) behave like a grump all night and have a bad time
c) think **** it and just make the most of a bad situation, get pissed and make sure you enjoy yourself and get £20's worth of fun?

that's all i'm saying (well, apart from the drink-driving link)
