Bush removal idea?

Planning on ordering some poly bushes this week, and reading how difficult they can be to remove, how about using an arbour? The centre drill through the metal insert, and a correct size arbour through the rubber to remove a core. Should release enough pressure to push the remaining rubber out?

Sounds like it might work. Though you will still need to split the outer sleeve.

The method that worked for me was to chain drill the rubber out and then use a hacksaw blade to split the outer steel sleeve and then tap it out with a punch. It only seems to work when a random number of expletives have been uttered so you might speed things up by turning the air blue before you get stuck in

Let us know if it works well as it could be quicker than chain drilling.

Blowtorch on the outer eye, then push the bush out quick?

Blowtorch takes 3 to 5 minutes to get the old bush out. Then hacksaw towards the link so that any nicks in the circular part are close to the welding - they won't spread that way.

Last thing you want is ant crack propagating nics. Push the things out (whether with a blow torch or not.) If you can't go to someone with a hydraulic press.

How did you get on with the arbour? Sounded like a good idea to me.

I haven't yet, the clutch broke and I had to spend the money on that instead! It's still on the agenda though as the next big thing...
