kids in cerbies?

Merry Christmas all. I'm a bit new to all this forum stuff so please be gentle!

Please excuse the nametag, reflects current content of my garage(M5 Touring and E30 M3), but hopefully about to change soon. TVRs run in the family - mum (!)drives '99 Chim and brother has T350C arriving 15 Jan, but I've missed out so far due to ankle biters.
Have now persuaded my partner that it's time to buy a Cerbie, with just the one proviso - that the kids aged 4 and 2 fit in!

Any views from Cerbie owners with sprogs? Does the TVR child seat fit in the passenger seat or in the back? Any legroom behind drivers seat (I'm 6'3")?

And any advice on what to buy for c.£22K gratefully received.

Welcome. I regularly carry my 13yr and 11yr old niece and nephew in mine. No problem so 4 and 2 should be a doddle. Can't comment on room behind driver, as I have my seat right forward (short @rse).

Hi Sean,

I have a 'family' Cerbie, and my kids are 5 and 3. The 3 year old still sits in the TVR babyseat, and probably will do so until he is 4 in Sept. The TVR babyseat goes in the back, where a special bracket/mount needs to be installed to support the base of the seat due to the lack of depth in the Cerbie rear seats.

As the baby seat is installed behind the passenger, my 5 yr old has to sit behind me, and he is just starting to moan about the lack of leg room. I'm about 6'1", so I guess I have my seat quite a long way back. Once the littlun doesn't need the babyseat anymore I will probably swap the 2 of them over, so that the tallest is behind his mum, and she can slide her seat further forward.

Overall I'd hope that we should be ok for another 2 yrs, but I guess it depends how quickly the oldest grows....Gawd knows what we do next though!!

Anyway, good luck with the Cerbie hunt.

My kids are 3.5 and 1.5 years old. I am 5'8'' but have the seat nearly all the way back which leaves little leg room for the 3 yr old. Probably have a couple of years left before I start having to move the seat forward. She is buckled using the car's seat belt with a triangular shaped cushion pad.

The one year old sits behind my wife in her Britax car seat (far more affordable than a TVR child seat). As you have probably guessed, my wife is shorter so she is happy to have her seat closer to the front.

I am 6'3". I have one daughter @6'1" and another @5'10", the three of us fit in just OK for short trips, school run etc. At a real squeeze I can move the drivers seat forward and get my third daugther in she is 4' 10". My wife is 5'10" but rarely rides in the Cerbera.

I bought a 4.5 Cerbie this year as I wanted a 4 seater sports car capable of carrying the family. I have a 9 month old baby and a 10 year old Son.
We tried quite a few cars and quickly came to the conclusion that no car in the class was going to do the job of running for hundreds of miles in complete comfort. But by far the best was the Cerbie.
I had the TVR child seat fitted and my son sits behind me, I'm 6ft 1 the seat is a long way back. The other advantage of this car is the boot we seem to carry around a huge amount of kids stuff which, most times, seems to fit!
The car has been fantastic no problems to date and 4 round trips to Bordeaux, with family, plus usual weekend outings. So confident in the cars ability I can't recommend it enough to you.

I'm also in the process of convincing my wife that a Cerbera is the way to go as a weekend family car to have fun in. We have a 2 month old baby. How much are TVR child seats and what age/weight steps do they go up in??

Has anyone got one for sale??

There is only one TVR Seat, its more a child seat than a baby seat. You can start using it from about 9 months on and they'll go up to 4-5 Years.

Getting hold of one is possible but they are rather like rocking horse poo.

My Leather Trimmed Child seat resides in my loft - It's cut to match the 'Biscuit' Coloured interior, if any body is desperate for 1.

I have no pobs with 2 adults, 1 Large 12 Year old and 1 long 7 year old for most journies (although it must be said that it is mine 2nd car)

Bought Cerbie when kids were 11 & 8 - now they're 15 and 12 and still fit with a squeeze and the driver's set forward...my son is now 5'11" and I'm 5'8" so we're not absolute dwarfs.

The trick is to start them young, then they don't know any better.

I wanted a TVR but like all of you with a small familly (son of seven) the two seater drop tops were of limits due to the demands of the better half. I have found the Cerbie to be more than capable of taking two kids and wife out shopping and returning with a boot load (wide and deep it can carry most things). I have been very surprised by the load carrying ability of my cerbie.
My wife is quite short at 5ft 3 so my son fits behind her no problems, I'm 6ft and I have had kiddies upto the age of 7 sitting behind me.

Any particular Britax child seat?? Do you use the bracket and child seat platform??

What age does the seat go from??

TVR seats only go from 9 months which means a 7 month wait

Have a look at this thread www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=16175&f=6&h=0&hw=britax I ended up buying a Britax Freeway but had to also get a seatbelt ratchet tighten tool from Halfords to get enough tension on the seat belt to hold the child seat in properly.

I'll try and get a picture up here so you can see.

Are you using the bracket as well?? All the car seats seem to be for children 9 months onwards . Looks like the car purchase will have to be put on hold.....

Just found this on Tesco's web site. ABC Super Intrepid Car Seat - anyone had any experience with this??

Sorry Marcus, forgot your little'n is only 2months so will need a rear facing seat - you could alway put him in the front and the missus is the back But you're right, all the seats for the back of the Cerbera are front facing from 9+ months.

rolexblue, I tried the Freeway at Mothercare this weekend and they were not happy that it was safe - we couldn't get the seatbelt tight enough and the seat tipped forward. Does the tensioner sort this out?

I also noticed that on a post earlier last year 5MUG said that she had to remove the rear headrest. Did you do that? I had a go but it didn't look like it was meant to come out (old style seats in a 1997 4.2).

Had exactly the same problem when I first tried the Freeway, it rocked about all over the place. I ended up buying a yellow and blue seatbelt ratchet thingy (technical term!) from Halfords, which cost about 15 quid. This allows you to put much more tension in the belt and the seat gets pulled in much firmer.

Mines a 98 4.5, left the headrests in - not sure they come out on the older style seats anyway.
