Can anyone supply technical information on beefing up the vw beetle gearbox to withstand 200 lb/ft of torque. The gearbox will be used for strip use mainly. I would like to use the IRS gearbox as this is what I am using at present. If not has anyone any suggestions for an alternative gearbox for my rear-engined car.

Thanks Saltpot

I would look no further than the Porsche G50 series 'box. They come in a number of variants, 5 & 6 speed and a selection of ratios some with LSD.
I have the G50/20 6 speed in my Ultima which is producing 508hp and 527 lbf.ft of torque.

Strong enough for you?

It may even bolt straight on. If not, there is bound to be an adaptor plate already made for it. (Kennedy).

You might want to consider an Audi FWD gearbox. They're cheap and very plentiful.
