i got in my 964 after driving the yellow peril and jesus the 964rs is such a great car , not that i dont love my peril cause im over the moon, just .. if anyone is thinking of buying a 964rs - go and get one, the grunt, the noise, the clutch rattling its b**ls off, the sheer awesome stance of the bloody thing & most of all what i really love - the bang when you shut the doors , thats when you know you got a proper 911 - irreplaceable - they simply dont make porsche like the gool old ones !!!!!!!!!

I am a bit confused...I thought both cars had very similar doors including door cards with the same sound on closing? Plus unless you have something very special on the 993, both cars would have the same LWF and coffee grind noise on pick up?
I would have thought other differences would have been more marked between the two cars?
Did you buy Paul McC yellow RSR conversion that went to Germany???

i did buy pauls car yes , and yes the doors do sound alike not like the newer stuff which sounds cheap and too refined , after selling my gt3rs i now know why i sold it and back to my roots , im just saying the 964rs is a awesome car..... i dont seem to think i said that the 964 sounds different to the 993 now did i ??? and yes they do sound similar'ish on pick which again i dont think i mentioned that they didnt !!!!!!! .....stop getting too picky mister !!!!!!!

Congrats on buying the yellow car, it is certainly special..I am sure you will have a lot of fun with it.
Sorry if you felt I was picky,,, you titled the thread 964 RS vs 993RS and then went on to mention characteristics of two areas where I thought they were using more or less identical parts hence why I responded that I was a little confused.....guess we won't be clearing that up.
At the end of the day they are both gret cars and I have to agree with a slight bias toward the earlier ligtweight cars myself

no worries clubsport , we agree on what matters the most the early 911 cannot be beaten it has been proved time and time again, we seem to go to the top buying GT2'S , GT3'S, GT3RS etc , then i personally seem to come down the ladder BUT in my eyes im near the top if you know what i mean.....keith

Like driving around in a tin can.....hit a bump and you're thrown across the road. Dials scattered all over the dash....No electric windows, not even a radio for Gods sake.
Where's the fun in that...wouldn't give 10k for one.....Give me a 996 Turbo any day....run rings all round an RS....It's all hype

You weren't the only one.... 993v964 says the threasd???????? I was anticipating a sensible structured discussion comparing the two fabulous beasts. No chance of that here. First comparison questioned gets a flat denial from Mr. Sambaman that he ever said it?????? WTF??
Tend to agree with the Turbo, mind numbingly fantastic cross country as long as they dont stick in any of those infuriating bend things in. The Romans had the right idea.... And theres nothing like the whine of a turbine thingy - no wait - my ex missus sounded frighteningly similar - come to think of it her smelly pet dog thing was like that as well. So, apart from two things there's nothing else like the sound of a whining ex missus and her flea ridden dog except the turbo. Fantastic motor! Hang on, I just remembered her nauseating father! He whined too - not as much as the dog I'll admit, but smelled far worse.
So only three things quite like the aural sensation of the turbo....
I had better stop thinking now - Dont agree with the door shutting routine however.... last one I heard can be simply replicated by getting an empty Heinz Baked Bean tin and lobbing it from a distance of about 10 feet into an empty metal dustbin. Or by slamming the door of a Fiat Panda. Nothing like the solid 'caaathunk' that a 996 gives.

VPR is Lee F...he has a white 964RS that he doesn't drive anymore as he might get a rain drop or dust particle on it and he wouldn't want to ruin his bling bling wheels
I think you will find he was being sarcastic and promting a possible rsponse from Des....
But he does own a 996 Turbo (2 I think?) which he does use as he doesn't mind them getting dirty as they are crap anyway...
