Does anybody have any experience of TV over a normal IP network?

Anybody recommend any suppliers of the encoders/decoders?

Can you get flat screens with built in ability to decode the signals?

I think the main barrier to this is that you need a lot of bandwidth.

People like NTL and Telewest provide a service called "teleport", which is basically TV on demand.

What do you mean by "a normal IP network?" I've experience of using (although I have no idea how it works) Cisco IPTV which multicasts over a 100Mb full-duplex IP network. Even then, the picture quality isn't all that brilliant...

Bliss AV, www.blissav.co.uk

We did a soft launch of their M products at the Smart Home Show last week. The have 4 or 5 livve homes up and running and it can encode, stream and decode live 'off air' pictures.

We hope to have the full, trade launch at CEDIA in June and then a Retail launch at Smart Home Show, London in September.

Phil or Keith are the guys to talk to up there.

The network will be CAT5e structured cabling with a 100Mbs switch.

The brief is to have 14 flat screens plugged into the network, with normal terrestrial channels and some others at the Client's discretion.

Hold on a sec.

Does it have to be an IP stream or could we just use the CAT5e to distribute the signals.

We did a Bar/Training/Conference facility about 14 months ago, using a AV Matrix switch that sends analogue composite video and audio signals over the CAT5e network.

We pulled out a £35K digital codec and installed a £10K analogue matrix with better results!

PM me if this is of interest and I'll give you a call.
