Right, I am now the proud owner of a ’98 2.5 Boxster, yes, yes I realise that I am the lowest of the low, just above owners of the Audi 924 but it’s all I have the brass for ATM and I can’t afford for my car to spend any time off the road/cost me a fortune to run. This is aside from the 2 new coils and air flow meter I have just had to fork out for.
Point of this post though is that the car I have is relatively low spec. It has air and the Bose sound but it lacks two things I really want, 18” wheels and the centre insert. The first should be easy for me to sort out myself (unless any of you have any better ideas, a spare set taking up too much space), the second a little harder.
Having had a good look it doesn’t look like rocket science to retro fit this but does anyone a) know where I can get one from for the right money and b) have any experience/advise on how to fit it?

If you have the 16" wheels then I'd consider changing, but only to the 17's as the ride will be better on these & tyres a bit cheaper than 18's - plenty on ebay.
Centre console easy enough to fit - again check on ebay, suppliers like Type 911, or breakers.

it's on 17"s at the moment and is fine but the arches look a bit empty.
Brother had one of the first many moons ago and went for the 18"s. I'd take his word for it if he says the driving dynamics are better with it as he knows a thing or two about setting cars up. It's not the rife that I’m really concerned about but the handling.

Listen. You have one great car there!
Boxster is one of the all time best handling cars; whether it has the 2.5, 2.7 or 3.2 motor. Just go and read EVO stats.
Personally, I think it looks great too - rear end is better balanced with the front "fried egg" headlight cluster than when it is applied to the 911.
Lots you can do to upgrade the look too: clear front and indicator lenses. Red/clear rear lights. Regarding the wheels: perfectly sensible advice above, but I do love my 18" Turbo Look wheels! Hell to clean, and more expensive tyres, though.

If you are on 17s at the moment I'd advise you to resist the "upgrade".
* 18s were never original fit on the 2.5. It was only in MY01 that the Boxster S got 18s as an option.
* There are many who critisize the handling of 18s. I think they're OK...but you *do* get worse tramlining etc.
* The tyres on 18s are think little strips of rubber to maintain the same rolling radius as 17s you *do* get a harsher ride. Since its the same rolling radius I'm not sure it will "fill the arches" a whole lot better...
* The 18" tyres are more expensive
* 18" Wheels aren't exactly cheap either

I have just bought the front storage console from a scrappy - people like porsche-appart sell them for about £150 with the colour coded sides - i am about to fit mine this weekend, so we shall have to see.
p.s i have been watching ebay UK, US and Germany for one of these for the last 5 months, and in that time there has been only 1. That got split in two auctions one for the main console, and then one for the side trim parts - went for £101 combined!!

Mines a 2.5....just decatted it with janspeed boxes too(£700) and a super chip(£350)(265Nm)approx....because of the gearing this will provide more torque than a 2.7(260Nm) and not quiet as much as a 3.2(305Nm & 310Nm)...so i dont think we are the lowest of the low....with the mid engine mount and 17" wheels you will have a wicked handling car i love my Boxster i love the shape and the style, and for the money you can't beat em. I'd never be able to afford a Porsche worth £50k-60k or more, and as it was pointed out to me when i first joined this forum a Porsche is a piece of automobile history and you should be proud...and so i am
