Taking apart Cup mirrors
Discussion
hi,
I have just taken mine apart for painting. I used M8 studding about 3 inches long but could be longer. What you need to do is to find a small spacer that fits over the clamp on the inside of the mirror. I used an old locking nut from a outside tap!. Slide nut over circular clamp inside the mirror. Place large washer on top of it to create a jacking block (to allow the bolt to be pushed up inside the recess of the spacer. Next push the studding through the center hole in the mirror bolt and fit nut inside the mirror clamping the spacer and washer. Use another washer on the base with a nut and tighten. This efectivley compresses the spring allowing you to be able to turn the clamp bolt using small screwdriver and the base should then come off easy.
Hope this helps
